The Carnival is back in town! And lagging behind by a few days is the sideshow, the Carnival of Derp. The rules are simple. Play T.A. Death on any engine that supports it, using any ruleset except for original TAP (which goes on the main Death thread). As usual, both the Derp Toll (sum of the highest scores of all combinations of player and ruleset) and the Herp Toll (sum of all players' highest scores) are counted. The specifications on what "any ruleset" means are the same as last year: Use a playing grid 10 cells wide, 20 cells high. Have a balanced randomiser. Respect all the delays in the Death game mode (in particular, no ARE-cancelling). Keep the tetromino a tetromino (4 blocks joined by edges) when rotated. Shenanigans are welcome (especially creative abuses of the rules that weren't done last year), but if you want to stick to standard rules that's fine too. Above all, have fun! The Carnival of Derp will run for 168 hours; in most timezones it will end on 4 April since it started late. The Carnival of Derp is complete! Final Derp Toll: 12213 (2018: 12460) Final Herp Toll: 6583 (2018: 6562) Code: Rank | Player | Game/Engine and Ruleset | Level | Time ================================================================================== 1 | Oshisaure | NullpoMino, Press E | 999 | 0:00:00 2 | Oshisaure | NullpoMino, Press E Lite | 999 | 0:00:50 3 | Oshisaure | NullpoMino, Shell Protection On Rot.Sys | 999 | 0:20:06 4 | Arcorann | NullpoMino, Classic2-PerverseOneHistory | 999 | 4:40:66 5 | Oliver | ???, Ti-ARS | 999 | 5:26:xx 6 | mycophobia | Heboris, ACE-ARS2 | 999 | 6:41:10 7 | MisdropPi | NullpoMino, Standard | 500 | 3:29:98 8 | MattMayuga | NullpoMino, Standard | 500 | 3:34:36 9 | Arcorann | Blockdrop, The Almost Death | 500 | 4:25:36 10 | Arcorann | NullpoMino, Standard-Hard | 497 | 4:19:71 11 | ElliottB1 | NullpoMino, Standard-Hard | 455 | 5:03:56 12 | Arcorann | NullpoMino, Biased on Nutty Kick Enh.RS | 452 | 4:14:05 13 | FreakyByte | TAP, All Items | 439 | 4:49:56 14 | Arcorann | NullpoMino, Classic-Easy-A | 399 | 3:47:88 15 | TPM2209 | Cambridge, SRS | 374 | 2:57:21 16 | Arcorann | NullpoMino, Classic3 | 348 | 3:10:68 17 | ry00001 | NullpoMino, Biased on Nutty Kick Enh.RS | 319 | 5:40:26 18 | TPM2209 | Cambridge, Ti-ARS | 299 | 2:26:50 19 | Arcorann | NullpoMino, Shirase Rotation System | 263 | 3:09:63 20 | TPM2209 | Cambridge, Cambridge Rotation System | 232 | 1:55:85 21 | Arcorann | NullpoMino, SuperLite | 196 | 2:10:76 22 | Arcorann | NullpoMino, Classic2-TransformRS | 164 | 1:39:45 23 | Arcorann | NullpoMino, Classic-O-Spin | 144 | 1:38:91 24 | Arcorann | NullpoMino, Classic0-68K | 138 | 1:33:96 Past Carnivals of Derp: 2018: https://tetrisconcept.net/threads/carnival-of-derp-2018.3368/ 2017: https://tetrisconcept.net/threads/carnival-of-derp.2990/ 2016: https://tetrisconcept.net/threads/carnival-of-derp-death-for-non-tap-ars-rotation-systems.2804/
Here's a few entries to fill out the leaderboard a bit more: NullpoMino - Standard-Hard - 426 - 3:47:90 497 - 4:19:71 NullpoMino - BONKERS - 452 - 4:14:05 NullpoMino - Shirase Rotation System - 263 - 3:09:63 My more interesting contributions will probably come in tomorrow.
Unfortunately I was too busy to find any new creative rule abuses, but I think what I got is still at least a little fun: TAP Death All Items: Level 439 in 4:49:56 I'm also going to reupload my stuff from last year in case someone wants to check that out (took it down because of the whole Arika copyright strike discussion) Unfortunately still doesn't comply with the rules, look at People have done this stuff before, which is why the rules where tightened last year. There is still a lot of shenanigans to be done with those rules though.
Yet another Carnival of Derp record set, with only I pieces. If you're seeing this, Arcorann, I beaten your record Rule used: Standard-I-Pieces-Only (Same as standard with the same delays, but every piece is an I tetromino)
Here are my submissions for this year. I might have another one at some point but I'm busy at the moment. Runs in this video: Shell Protection On Rotation System - 999 - 00'20"06 - starts at 1:45 Hold F And Rotate - 999 - 00'00"73 - starts at 4:50 (doesn't count, piece doesn't stay a tetromino) Press E (lite) - 999 - 00'00"50 - starts at 7:43 Press E - 999 - 00'00"00 - starts at 9:36
Firstly, a couple more runs (I'll post replays and other relevant files eventually): NullpoMino, Classic3 - 348 - 3:10:68 NullpoMino, SuperLite - 196 - 2:10:76 I've updated the leaderboard. We've still got one day and a little way to go to reach last year's count. Some of you may be wondering how my run with so many I pieces could possibly satisfy the rule of having a "balanced randomiser". According to statements from TPM2209 on Discord last year, "balanced randomiser" means that it has to be designed to produce the pieces with equal probability (all I pieces being an example of something disallowed). The system I used to get around this was to take a one-history randomiser, but instead of biasing it away from the last piece I biased it toward the last piece (hence the name PerverseOneHistory). It's easy to see that if the initial state is random the probability of each piece appearing is 1/7, and eventually all pieces will appear 1/7 of the time thanks to the system being ergodic, so the randomiser is "balanced". All that's left is to reset until you get a run where I appears 720 times in a row (took me a few tries - my first attempt was a 553 after T pieces started spawning midway). (I was considering a perverse bag randomiser that generates a bag then deals each piece in the bag 1000 times, but this was my first idea and I figured the results would be the same regardless.) Relevant files are attached, by the way.
