So, I got lazy and didn't feel like editing my previous post, but here's my proof: Also, damnit Ed, we've been contemplating asking to reset the scores on the machine to get your name off until one of the austinites can hit GM, but kinda doubt Ryan would let us Currently, I've hit S8, Jeremy hit S7, Jeff and Markus have hit S5, but Markus lost the drive to hit GM because he wanted to be the first and you took it >< Oh well, I'll be there soon, I'm shooting before April.
Well, Jeff doesn't take it too seriously, but Jeremy and I love it, I've been doing more research and watching videos, whereas jeremy just plays and watches me. I showed him that japanese tgm guide that was translated to english, and that helped a lot. All I have left to do really is improve my movement finesse, and learn when to block my hole and go for a tetris recovery. It'll come with time, I suppose...
I love hearing stories about you guys playing this game in arcade UFO. Makes me happy this site did its part helping them out with that save the arcades contest.
That's the plan! And I just hit S8 around level 930ish, terrible time tho, no pic of the enter your name screen, but I got the baby background! inching my way towards GM!
Sorry for the double post but figured I'd update! Just hit S9 at 14:xx:xx and beat tgm! I made the two cut off points, just gotta cut my time down, and I'll be GM! Hehe, next update WILL be GM so help me God!
Yeah, I wasn't sure about locking every piece after level 500, but I'll have to start doing it... I think I hit 500 around 7 mins, also, I had a few pretty bad misdrops so I was spending a lot of time trying to recover >< We'll see what happens today
after 500, try to play like you were willing to break the down direction of your controller. that's what I did to get my last record (almost 10 seconds improvement, not bad)
Aim for times under 06:45 at level 500 consistently. I would suggest locking aggressively the first 2 or 3 20G sections and only slow down to correct mistakes. Just try not to mess up your timing. You can then take it easy the last few sections and focus on survival. Playing fast with the end in sight and stress isn't a good mix. cyberguile's post's good advice that worked for me. Just make sure to keep stacking decently and not to lose too much time to the line clear delay. As far as I know my best 20G time attack time is 05:20. It was achieved while manual locking like crazy with little regard to stacking nicely. When I stack too cleanly I get higher scores with times at least 15 seconds slower. Can you post your best known 20G and sub 20G times? EDIT: Last week 777 improved his time about a second. More here on his blog. Updated the first post. I left the link to the video of his previous best because there's no video of the above performance. EDIT: WTF happened?! A few hours ago the amount of page views for this thread was 88xx.
My time at entering 500 was about 6 minutes exactly. Around 650 or so I made a couple horrible mistakes that I probably lost about 20 seconds trying to fix. Also I got caught at the level stop a couple times. Plus playing on you know what and a laggy HD monitor probably didn't help things. I know I'm capable of at least 11:15. As you can probably tell from my score, I got a bunch of tetrises towards the end. I hit S9 as I entered 800.
another method is to try and go for tetrises or triples only the whole game (and I mean, only tetrises or triples, except for level change)
Almost 2 years later... I am becoming impatient... I let you guys 1 year to beat me on TETRIS.. Hurry up, I will have very soon the stuff to come back seriously (joystick)... AND you all will suffer..AND DIGITAL and kevin will also suffer.
