If I wanted to I could get a Gm at moderate speed 100% of the time. See also: my 11:20 one handed Gm on the first try. But when I'm really pushing myself I finish only ~5% of the games. However I haven't played this style in quite a while, and this has been increasing over the last while.

Oh and definitely start a big mode thread. I got S8 on the weekend... Can't remember if that's my record.

 

The way I'm playing, 1% of my games are GM. Most of them are suicide'd at S2, and sometimes around S6. DAS and manual locking, as well as the unfair randomizer, and time pressure causes mistakes that lead to direct suicide. Otherwise, I'll die (not taking a suicide) around level 800-900 with a S8 or S9.

 

Believe it or not, most of my games, 20G mode or otherwise, die within the first 100-200 levels. I really dislike the lack of sonic drop, and if I don't like my start in 20G mode I suicide. The rest of my deaths would come around just after 500 if I make a mistake during 3G-5G (which often happens because of DAS). After 20G I'm pretty much all good now.

So, I would say it's about 10% of games that make it to 999, with 3/4 of those Gm. Plenty of room for time improvement, so I hope to fulfill my TGM1 resolution sooner rather than later.

 

I can make GM better than 50% of the time as long as I play it safely. Playing too high I usually die before 300.

 

I passed 500 at 5:20, totaly failed the last section in completing it with lot of single at 2/3 of the stack, and the result is 10:17..

Bought myself a TGM pcb for xmas. Been playing for about a week. Finally managed to get S1 today, S2 followed shortly after.

do you do that with all tetrises? I almost made S3 at level 400 i topped out at 399 less then 1000 points away

You would get S3 if you stack for tetrises almost all the way to level 300, but there is an "easier" way to do this.

What you need to try and do is stack for combos as long as possible. Watch this and try to do this for the first 100 levels for a start. You will need to adapt your playstyle a little. When the game gets too fast for you to stack like this you should revert back to stacking for tetrises. I can comfortably stack for combos until about level 250.

If you do this right you can get grade 2/3 before level 100, S1/S2 before level 200, S3 before level 300 and I can get S4 before level 350.

But more importantly is to play the way that is most comfortable to you. Try to survive as long as possible and aim for as much tetrises as possible is probably easier for most people.

He's probably one of the few ones who could do that. I don't think I can get S4 before level 300 even if I try to abuse the level stop. You can get higher grades early on by using this technique, but you will need to be a master at stacking, have good timing, stack high and keep cool etc. which is very difficult and it will also slow you down considerably if you're not good enough.

@cyberguile: Nice! I need to put in a lot of effort and be a little lucky to get S3 around level 300.

Just a tip m that you'll want to time your screenshot during your name entry so that we can get both the mastering time and level.

 

A picture of your high score screen will also have all the necessary information. To get there quickly, insert one credit and hold down+rotate. Otherwise, you can just wait around for the attract mode to cycle around to the high scores.

 

Well, it won't have the level. But that's also just for fun, not for rank.
