S5, level 551, 7:29:41. Holy shit that's slow I'm having a lot of the same problems Ai is, I believe. I can survive a few hundred levels in Death, but when playing in 20G I am very vulnerable to mistakes. Anything more than a single-mino hole can and will destroy my games, and I am extremely slow at finding places to make good overhangs. When I watch TimC's Sudden M video, I am amazed at how he fixes things and instantaneously finds good overhangs, not even having to think to set up a 3-wide hole with a 2-wide mouth. I don't feel like practicing 20G alone will help me get this down, either...
Keep at it. It takes a while to get used to especially if you're coming from SRS. Try 20G with infinite lock delay in heboris or lockjaw? This gives you all the time you need to stack properly.
My best S5 mastering time is 7:05:68 so that's not really far away from you Radish but I'm not a fast player. Meroigo care to share your S5 mastering time or are you only going to post when you become GM? As for the pros they seem to get S5 between 4 and 5 minutes, but they play at insane speed and they stack high all the time. Make sure you manual lock consistently. I only started doing so recently. I can manual lock consistently till level 300 after which I tend to play safer if I get in trouble. We will have to be patient. Improvement will happen when you least expect it. There are a few of us hunting for the GM grade. Hopefully this year will see a lot of players get the grade. I have practiced manual locking in 20G earlier today in Texmaster and I think I'm slowly improving. 500-921 in 6:12:88 with grade S7! My stacking seems to have improved and I can get to level 900 a little more often now. So much for the Tetris break... I sure will! Keep up the nice improvements everyone and just a little more and you can get back your third place colour_thief!
No comments? It's really awesome, more people should watch it. Also: Code: 3--colour_thief-----------Gm - 999 @ 10:22:71 - 01/04/09 I made a terrible misdrop at 997 or something that cost me over 5 seconds. But! A new record! It's great to be playing the old masterpiece again.
Code: 2--colour_thief-----------Gm - 999 @ 10:13:20 - 01/04/09 There's 2 of my resolutions dealt with. I think I'll keep pushing harder in TGM1 for a bit. It would be a shame to move on so soon after barely playing it again.
A little faster and you can fit the whole thing in a 10:59 YouTube video including the credit roll. That limit, in my opinion, is part of why you see so much more TAP than TGM1 on YouTube.
Actually I fast forwarded the credits so even with my name entry I'm well under 11 minutes. That said there's no sense in putting it on youtube if I'm going to beat it soon.
You can reduce the credit roll time to under 15 seconds by holding your Player-Start button. With a fast name entering, CT's video could work.
Still going, trying to pass mufunyo. I forgot to check what the level was for this game, again, but S4 now!
Continuing my TGM1 binge. This would have easily been ~11:15 with >200k points if I didn't screw up hilariously in the 100-200 section and made a misdrop at 905. The latter was the horizontal I you can make out at the bottom, where I had just recovered from some garbage and an I was literally the last piece I wanted. Gm, 999 @ 11:40:23
Nice job of keeping up with colour_thief, DeHackEd! That was really close and intense. Why did the last digit of DeHackEd's level counter disappear near the end? Bug or game feature? It seems as if 20G is easier for you guys than the other sections. What's the percentage of GM runs you guys get currently? GM 50% of games you start? Just a raw estimate is good. At the moment I can get S4 easily, S5 with a little effort and S6 very rarely. Sub 10 minutes soon? I say go for it! And I know one person who's not happy... @merpy: Nice improvement. Now try working on your mastering time. @rednefed: 11:15 would have moved you into the top 10. I see that there is no TGM Big Mode thread in the records section. Is it okay if I start one?
Care to explain what happened to the level counter in playfield 2 at level 900? Also I don't understand how such a bad start in playfield 1 can actually win.
The working theory is that there's a limit to the number of digits that can be displayed on the screen at a time. When everyone has 5 digit scores and you make S7, suddenly "Next grade at 100000" has one more digit on-screen for the hundred-thousand place and it eats my first level counter digit. When the other player makes S7, the same argument applies and another disappears. When someone makes S8, their actually score is now 6 digits long - another digit comes off the level counter. The other player makes S8, that's another digit. Sucks to be me as I approach the level steps. Oh, and hypothetically if anyone can bravo, the bravo counter is another digit. Should we be lucky enough to each make a bravo, that's my whole level counter. We'll try for that some other time.
