  1. I think it depends on where you want to end up as a player. Personally, I don't care for games outside the TGM series, so I'm content with specialising in ARS. Maybe at some point I'll swing more towards SRS, but that isn't the plan right now.

If you want to be good at TGM, then I'd say concentrate on TGM and therefore ARS. If you want to be a better all-round player, or better for 40 lines speed, then go for SRS as well.

I'll think about it. Maybe I should just improve my overal abilities before focusing entirely on ARS.

TDS is what got me addicted to Tetris, but recently I keep thinking how cool it would be if I could get the GM rank in the future. TGM is fascinating and mastering it would be such great feat!

not quite. MINI operates on a "plugin" system, which means you can add and remove game rulesets as plugins when you feel like it. it also allows for a bit more customization than the standard UE expansion.

    side note: I'm pretty good with SRS and all of the wallkicks (including the 180-rotate wallkicks) it has in MINI. As for ARS... not so good with it. <.<;;

Thank you for pointing that out! I'll give it a try this weekend!

It's this kind of insight I'm currently still missing or not good enough at. I've read about wall kicks and floor kicks in the wiki, but somehow it all feels too advanced for me right now. I know very little about the different rulesets at the moment. I'll need to change that soon though if I want to achieve higher rankings.

I don't know if you already know this or not, but do you have a slot-2 cart for your DS and are you using its GBA loader to load files onto it? I have an EZ3in1 slot2 cart and I need to load GBA files using GBALdr or the EZFlash4-tool. I would imagine it's a similar procedure for other carts.
Don't worry too much about the technical details of wallkicks, what I did is simply watch lots of Tetris videos, preferably TGM1 ones which contain lots of overhang constructions that require twists, and have a slow enough speed to follow what the player is doing. Eventually you'll recognise similar situations and you can try to perform said twist, like kicking a T piece into a tight spot or hooking an L into an overhang. You can pretty much learn twists one by one gradually, and improve your play with it. Once you've mastered a twist you can purposefully create an overhang that requires the twist, when you receive a piece that you have no other suitable placement for. Hope what I'm saying makes sense!

The M3 Perfect is made to run GBA games and has a dedicated software manager to make the GBA files playable on the SLOT-2 card. I've never had problems with it thus far. I'll skim through some forums and see if I can still get it working somehow.

As for the M3DS Real of my brother. It has a GBA SLOT-2 expansion, but it's not really all that stable compared to the M3 Perfect. So it didn't quite surprise me that the file was not recognized.

Personally I use a CycloDS Evolution cart most of the time. At first I also wanted to buy the EZ 3in1, but a friend of mine gave me his M3 Perfect.

It's okay. I understand what you are saying. I've read about twists and overhang in the "Methods of Play" section of the wiki under "Twists" and "Skimming" last weekend.

Thank you for your insight. And yes I try to watch other people's videos on a regular basis.

The next few days I'll give it a shot to obtain the S3 rank.

  8. I wouldn't mind a thread for texmaster tgm1 mode (normal) and tgm2+ deathmode (sudden).

I've been soooooooooo close to the S3 rank so many times that it almost drives me crazy! -_-'

I just can't keep my cool around level 250 with the S2 rank. It's as if I mess up on purpose! LOL!!! ^^

And it's more than clear that if I get the S3 rank it'll take a while before I achieve the S4 rank. I haven't yet gotten used at the speed above level 300. Well I can stack a little now, but tetrises or even triples and doubles are still out of the question. After I get S3 I'll prepare myself for some serious 20G training!

My best performance so far played on 05/11/08. My mastering time has improved quite a lot. I'm just a few seconds slower than in the video LOst posted a while ago.

Look at that score. I couln't believe it! Ugh! This was played today.

    EDIT:

Is there a file where the ranking is saved? By the way I'm currently using ZiNc.

I have finally been able to achieve the S3 rank!

My third run of the day was the good one. I made a few mistakes early on and was planning on giving up and try again just like the previous two games. Somehow I continued playing for practicing purposes. Before I knew it I achieved S2 just before level 300. After which I made a few doubles and triples to secure this new personal best.

This was the second time I ever saw the background which appears after level 400.

As you can see from the screenshots my mastering time isn't that great because I wasn't playing seriously for most of the game.

I will try to improve my mastering time, but unfortunately I already have the S3 top spot on the leaderboard.

I've had so many good runs where I could have or must I say should have gotten S3 in the 5 minute area near level 300. Well needless to say I'm still proud of this achievement. With this "bad" run ending in an S3 Rank I feel I can get S4 soon too.

I'm looking forward for my training under high gravity that I will be starting soon. Bring it on! ^^

Thank you everyone for your help! Special thanks go to LOst! ^^

  12. Since I've been lurking here a while and haven't taken screenshots, this will have to do:

    S8, don't remember exact score, mastering time S8 = 11:36:56.

Actual survival: level 975, time = 13 minutes, 32 seconds.

Basically, this would have been GM if I didn't screw up so badly in 800-900. I failed an L auto-synchro that plugged up the rectum and couldn't recover, so I attempted to single my way to 999 until the I of Doom came and kicked my butt (no floorkick).

  14. A new high [IMG] Not a huge improvement but it puts me into the 12min bracket, just! I think I can do alot better. I made alot of silly missdrops from dodgy inputs mid-way through which slowed me down. I'll keep at it though.

I am not surprized, getting TGM1 Gm is a very big challenge for a m7 player..

Well yes when that m7 basically started out on texmaster, and has always had easier kicks and the hold button i would think it would be quite a challenge.
