you can run any resolution you like, but the framerate must be locked at 60fps since that's the speed the original arcade machine runs at. i personally play TGM1 on Zinc in 640x480x32 resolution @ 60fps without any filtering (antialiasing or blurring), i like the "pixel perfect" picture. as for TAP, i run it on MAME in 320x240x32 @ 60 fps.
What? ZiNc does indeed save records. One time something bizarre happened and it reverted to some old S7 records -- I think ZiNcGUI somehow did it when I was playing with configurations -- but I've never outright lost my records. Perhaps there is a configuration issue on your side?
I used the default settings all along which are 640*480*16 and was comfortable with it and I think I will keep it that way. And by the way ZiNc saves my "Grandmaster Ranking" as well.
yeah but don't forget to limit the fps to 60 otherwise the game runs faster (say, at 100-150 fps if your pc is powerful enough) meaning that you'll have less time to react and to do proper keypresses to move the pieces. it's not critical at levels up to 300 (and the game feels and appears "smoother") but when the speed begins to rise, that it's very important.
Thanks for pointing that out! I reverted back to playing with the frame limiter off. When on I got a frame rate between 120 and 140 constantly.
I don't know what either of you are talking about; Mame++ does indeed save the records, just like any other version of mame. If the original arcade hardware supports saving high scores to NV-RAM (as TGM does), then there is no reason whatsoever for the records not to be saved in mame, regardless of the version, unless you use savestates or cheats or other forms of tampering. If Ghett0 wants to avoid any potential skepticism when he records his .inp, I suggest he uses the commandline version of mame112 that I sent him a while back. It's patched with the wolfmame diff and should theoretically prevent any foul play on his part. It's also got less lag than mame++, so there's no real excuse not to use it anyway.
Hmm... I guess I was mistaken then. Is probably either the version I have, or the way it's set up, but ZiNc has never saved records or in-game settings for me. I've never tried TGM on MAME because of the sound bug.
Also, as gravity gets higher, it's important to remember that I pieces do not have any kicks. This means that if you want to rotate an I to a side column, you need the following structures: Code: XXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX (DAS left, rotate I on wall) Code: XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX (DAS right, rotate I on wall) This asymmetry is noteworthy, and why everyone generally recommends your rectum on the right, as it is much easier to sneak an I in. If you have a structure like that, IRSing (rotating before it comes in) the I piece isn't necessary, and if columns 6-9 are messy and an IRSed I would get stuck, but you have that structure, you'd be better off DASing right and rotating on the wall. Structures similar to this are what I'm thinking here: Code: X X X X XXX X XX <-- room for I to rotate here! XXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX Good luck on reaching the higher grades! ~EI
Your insight is much appreciated LOst and EIHoppe! I've been reading about the strategies you mention in the wiki, the forum and some guides. But unfortunately it's a lot more difficult for me currently to put it all into practice. Watching LOst's video and others available on youtube seem to have helped me in some way though. I'll have to play the game for a while longer to get used to it and up my game before aiming higher. My short term objective for now is to reach the S3 rank. After which I will try to get used to higher gravity by practicing in 20G mode. Is there a way to practice at the gravity from let's say level 300 or any another gravity (apart from 20G) from the start?
Thanks for mentioning this. Those are game modes from TAP if I'm not wrong, but they must be similar. I'll give it a try during the week and see how I fare. The feature you want to add would help too! By the way I didn't play TOD on GBA yet, but I'm planning on giving it a try tomorrow! I need to learn to play faster with my keyboard. My TPM on the DS version of lj is near 80 while on PC it's around 60 most of the time. Also it's too bad Arika isn't releasing a TGM version on DS because that would be insane!
There's very little difference between TGM1 and TAP Master in 0-500, except for the former's lack of firm drop. Do you have any Nintendo 64 controllers? I play Lockjaw through one of these, and my little cousin plays MAME through an "EMS USB2" PS1 to USB adapter. There is KGM for GBA, if that helps.
I've been playing it on my DS over the last few days using the Lockjaw simulation settings for TGM found on the Lockjaw wiki. Thanks! I don't have either of the controllers at the moment. My older brother has 2 Xbox 360 controllers though... I think I'll be just patient and go for the arcade stick this summer and I'll keep working on my keyboard skills in the mean time when playing TGM. I tried to run the game on my DS using the M3 Perfect and M3DS Real of my brother, but I didn't get it working. The file was not recognized. I did play it for a while using VisualBoyAdvanve though. It did look okay from what I've seen so far. On the other hand I had no problems with TOD. It worked like a charm. I'm curious about something. Did you or someone else really play Tetris under influence of hallucinogenic drugs or is it just the way you think it would be? So far I've only tried Heboris and it looked very professionaly made and I thought I needed more training before taking it seriously. I haven't had a chance to try Texmaster yet. Maybe this weekend. A few weeks ago I downloaded Heboris and the UE expansion. I've just read the thread with information on Heboris MINI. It's just Heboris UE with netplay support if I'm not mistaken? So not really necessary to update if I'm not planning on playing online yet, right? Also I noticed that certain people on the forum are seriously aiming to get a GM rank or get good at TGM and are only playing with ARS. Should I do the same to improve? Should I focus entirely on one rotation system? As always thanks for your replies. Your support is really appreciated!
