Yay!!! Thanks! Amnesia je vous ai vu parler en franais avec jago. Moi je suis belge. Je viens de la partie flamand du pays mais je parle aussi un peu le franais. Honestly though even though 50 is such a nice number I'd rather be a little higher up the rankings. I wouldn't mind being 13th. So I presume the Mastering Time is the time it took you to get the highest rank you have at end of the game and the other time is the time when it's game over. I'm currently desperately trying for an S2 rank. I'm starting to get a very very little used to the brutal speed after level 300. I had a run just now where I got to level 402. The game has some great music. Any chance I can get it somewhere? Is it possible to save your best times in TGM using ZiNc or are the times always reset if you quit the game?
50 is a great milestone for us to reach. The goal is to get a high rank, with a fast/low mastering time. The mastering time is the exact time when you got your grade, as opposed to the time when you died. If you reach 999 and get Gm, then your mastering time is the same as the time displayed. Keyboard and stick are both good. Stick makes certain special moves (only possible in TGM2, not TGM1) easier to perform. One thing I'm not clear on, because you're talking about gamepads, but when we say sticks here we generally mean arcade sticks. These are digital, unlike the analoque sticks found on modern gaming controllers. They are held with a hand instead of a thumb. As for level 300, I can remember when I played it similarly. It's very normal for it to be deadly at first. Don't worry, with practice you will get used to the speed and start building a little more evenly and higher in the middle.
There was an official OST released for this game, including some remixes. And ZiNc should be automatically saving your best 3 games, where "best" means highest grade, then fastest mastering time.
Yes I had not this pb when I used Zinc in the past.. Be aware that you can make run TGM1 on Mame if you prefer..
pm me for a link to the ost. i know a place where it's avaiable. as for speed. well... wait 'till you'll get near 500 and the music shuts down and then when you hit 500 the music changes to a fast trance beat and the pieces will fall down instantly. that's the best bit of the game, to survive the half of it with instant gravity zinc saves the records for me. that was the reason why i abandoned playing TGM on impact (which is very very old emulator).
I know the difference. I was just mentioning that playing with gamepad is not really easier than playing with keyboard. I'm not really used to playing with the keyboard so that's why I initially tried playing with a gamepad. I've seen some Hori arcade sticks in a gaming shop a few days ago, but they are quite expensive over here. I'm going to look online for cheaper sticks. If anyone knows a good place with good sticks that can be shipped to Europe please do link to the website. I've improved a little over the last 2 days, but I can't stack properly yet. And creating tetrises is still a distant dream. Sorry about that. It seems ZiNc has actually been saving my best times. I was just confused because the "Todays Ranking" is always reset. I just didn't notice because I saved under the initials ARK... -_-' I did try to use Mame, but I couldn't get the game to run properly. It didn't run smoothly like the ZiNc version and I couldn't find the sound fix PetitPrince was talking about in his TGM guide. But it's okay now. I found out the game was actually saving my times. I did try 20G mode because some said it would improve my speed. All I can say is that it's scary. I did play it a few times and it was only to see how long I could last. I couldn't clear lines and I could only last for about a minute.
Here. You might want to read the first post if you don't know how to use cheat in Mame. But for TGM1, I recommend Zinc + L0st's Plugin.
Thank you very much! Your guide helped me a lot and your "Tetris the Grand Master - A gameplay essay" was very interesting! Maybe you could also link to the plugin you mentioned?
Ai, at you current skill, you should aim to get the top hiscore. It's the S3 grade. I have made a demonstration how to reach S3 before level 300. It's slow, but it works. Take you time and analyze the video, and see if you can do a simular play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnU0xCAs8dk Soon you will be a S3 class player!
A tetris and some triples and this could've been a GM. Oh, I'd also need a bit more speed in earlier sections.
Grade 1 or better by 300 Grade S4 or better by 500 (music transition). The second one can be a pain. You must make tetrises even in 300-399 and 400-499.
Thanks for the link to the video and your advice! And great work on the TGM plugin as well! I've almost achieved S2 a few times but couldn't keep my cool. I'll work on my speed and try for S3 before level 300. I'll analyze the video tomorrow and I'll see what I can do. I have a question about the settings in ZiNc. A few hours ago I was playing around with the resolution and the frame limiter and I found out that they change the game experience quite alot. Especially if you play full screen with the frame limiter off. Instantly the game will run a lot smoother and the game is a lot more responsive to the keyboard. I needed to be more focused and very precise when the game was getting faster. From the few runs I had the game felt a little bit more difficult and it was harder to get the S1 rank. Is there some general rule on what settings to use or all settings accepted? Also it's too bad I'm not 50th anymore! >.<
