  1. Use the sobsvc thing. There's a readme file that sort of vaguely explains how to do things.

Rough steps of what I did, after first unchecking the "Auto-start on Windows boot" box in the client settings

    sobsvc -i [installs it]
sobsvc -p:2 [sets up two clients, which will by default have an affinity for their own separate processor]
    *reboot*

This then causes it to run two clients in the background when windows starts up, automatically. However because I only have two processors and both were being consumed by this thing, I also used "sobsvc -k" and then rebooted again, which means that the icons appear in the taskbar, so I can actually call up each client and pause them if I want my PC to be a little less sluggish.
By calling up the clients I can also confirm that they're working properly, and not doing the same calculations one after the other, like they do if you just run a second one manually. They're not even working on the same values of 'n'.

  2. Yeah that works, except (at least on Vista) they run invisibly. Which means I get no GUI and no way of telling them to stop if I want full reign over my cycles. I messed around with another multi CPU alternative... something called "multisob". But that wasn't working at all either, as both instances would again crunch the exact same thing.

...I finally worked around this and now have 2 clients running simultaneously. I had to start one client, then edit my bloody registry, then run a second client. And if I ever power down I'll have to do that again after rebooting. God knows what will happen when one of them completes a test.

    But! Doubling my performance! [IMG]

Also random trivia: Tepples' SoB ccount is like super mega old. That's crazy.

[IMG] I already have a gazillion things running but I'll take a look at it later.

  4. Have you tried the -k command and then restarted? Or does that just not work on Vista?

  5. Yeah, not on Vista. It's a known issue because I checked their forum and found a few threads with the same unresolved problem.

  6. For what it's worth my hacky solution looks stable. Both instances have successfully finished a test and retrieved a new test, which I've definitely confirmed as being actual new work and not a dupe. So if you spend a few minutes setting it up after booting, it should be good indefinitely until you power down.

Our team is doing well so far. We just passed Bulgaria and we're way above teams like "Overclockers.com". [IMG] We're actually almost in the top 20 now, which is quite respectable. More people should join in!

  7. A biiiig bump to let you guys know there is a NEW CLIENT!!

It's completely new, so I'd let your current tests finish before switching over because it won't carry over.

    Key features include:

    -it no longer sucks
    -15% faster
-will use all your cores without requiring any effort
-will work on vista, mac, linux
-now available in 64 bit flavours

Go update! And if you were put off by the lame client before, please do give it another shot.
