I feel like such an idiot: I just went and tried beginner's Tetris, and it is completely trivial to get all clears and the scoring is identical to the regular game, so I could have saved myself a lot of trouble in figuring out the scoring. It's actually surprisingly fun to play trying to get as many all clears as you can and hearing the dramatic all-clear tones play over and over again. I think the highest you could potentially score would be close to a million if you could all clear off every line clear, and I managed to get 717K. I wonder if they specifically decided to use the T-spinning formula so that the high scores in beginner's Tetris would be similar to the high scores you can get in normal Tetris. I almost wish they would have had a beginner's Tetris round in one of the tournaments, because it is way more fun than field climber and it would have been less trivial than that beginner stage racer T route.
I agree, especially since the number of all-clears is actually kept track of. It's easy to bypass this mode altogether, but it can be a lot of fun if you're looking for a slightly different Tetris experiemce.
Anyone notice that it now says stage racer is round 3 and shadow is round 4 if you login to check my ranking, but the press announcement said the opposite? I wonder if they changed it or if it's just another error. I guess it will be a mystery what we're actually doing till round 3 rolls around.
Has anyone received any points for the second tournament yet? My Points Received are currently listed as "Pending" on the website. My wife and I only came in 282nd place, but as strange as this whole series of tournaments has been, I'm wondering if we'll actually end up receiving any Wii Points for our efforts.
No, I imagine it will be a couple weeks before they distribute the points for Co-op. My rank still said pending when I logged in this morning. I somehow doubt 182 people above you would have submitted multiple scores on one Wii or failed to register for the tournament, so they'd likely have to screw up the awarding of prizes for you to get points, but I wouldn't put it past them.
well, it seems as if not many people participate in the tournaments at all. for "co - op endless" the online rankings for region europe only shows 464 submitted scores... and for "field climber" round3 whe have only 113 submitted scores, yet. how many scores were submitted in other regions ?
There's usually about twice as many people in North America, but the participation in the tournaments has been pretty weak and declining I think. They should have had some cool prizes for the top scorers to help generate more interest in the tournaments and to encourage more competition, because most people seem satisfied to just make the top 100 or 500 and get their Wii points or else they can't even be bothered to deal with all the hassle of the confirmation codes just to get the Wii points. I hope the last tournament will be better, because battle is the most popular game mode, but it's going to suck if they allow people to cheat by disconnecting or playing dummy opponents non-stop on a second Wii.
I think it is going to be a random pairing with another person who wants to do battle mode for the tournament. So whoever plays the most will have the best chance of winning because they can play the most easy opponents.
Round 4 seems silly... I don't think there's enough of a player base in this tournament to justify a Battle Ranking round. Tourney #2 prize e-mails have been sent out btw.
Yeah, I cashed mine in and bought megaman 3 on the virtual console. Now I've earned twice as many points as the game cost, which is nice. These tournaments should feed my virtual console habit for a while.
i can't update my score for the smile round. it's like i haven't played the round when i go to update
Are you sure you got 100%? Earlier I thought it failed to save my best time, but I realized later that I must have filled in an extra space.
positive i got 100%, the game even saved my best time. at first i wondered if it was because i did the run on the 15th before you could check your records. so i did it again. it still saved my prior time as the high score, but when i go to update it doesn't list my time.
sure enough, that worked.. the old score sucked anyway i beat it by 25 seconds.. i just hate that mode. i played stage racer early and it let me update. i wonder what's going to happen when it comes time to enter the codes, and it's for stage race not shadow
strange - i did not get any notification yet, though i seem to be around place 216... "2/1/09 - 2/15/09 Co-Op Endlos Tetris AN Meine Platzierung: 216 Erhaltene Punkte: 785 Status: " my region is europe. might it be, that they forgot the whole european zone ? another thing: can someone give me hints about how to solve the shadow - smile level ? i just cant get it right. is there probably some tutorial / youtube video showing how to solve it ?
You needed to be top 100 for the Co-op tourney. The 4th tourney is only going to be for the top 100 too. Bill put a smile video up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmhWrlrahzY
In the previous round 'Field Climber' my time should have gotten me 12th place, however after many attempts to upload it it still ranked me as 30 something. The score was saved and on the upload page was even visible. It looked silly that I had a faster time then the guy in 12th but it still ranked me lower. It seems there are quite a few bugs in this upload process. I am just glad I didnt get a miracle round and then it didnt upload. This bug cost me 20 places.
