sorry to go off topic here, but thylacine that was an awesome challenge mode game you played

    http://zone.tetris.com/page/leaderboard

for #1 all time. i wish i could watch the replay but that feature isn't working for me right now (i'm running TZ in Wine on Ubuntu).

  3. Thylacine, are you B*B on T Party? I saw your Survival video on Tetris Friends. I like how you practically have the ZT stacking down to an algorithm by doing the SL blocks and stacking IJO together.

    Thank you sir.

The first eight minutes of the game was good but I cracked under the pressure in the final two minutes. I missed the level 23 checkpoint and seemed incapable of doing anything other than surviving at these speeds.... i am still working on it. The points I got were due to an almost perfect ZT stacking routine up to the point I lost control. I would love to hit the perfect game of ZT stacking to the end, but this will require a few more weeks(months(years)) of practice.

I am B*B on 'Tetris party', I believe that simplifying the whole stacking routine is key to surviving at higher speeds. I was trying to write a response to the thread 'Sustainable ST Stacking' but was unable to get all my ideas down on paper. Perhaps I will attempt to collect my thoughts on the subject and post it, but it is very difficult to compress all my thoughts into a digestible post that makes sense.

  6. If you're still having trouble, I've improved the setup I used in the video. Now I try to start off with something like this: [fumen link]
You get 50 skips, so it's not too hard to set up this exact layout. (If you're shooting for a really fast time, you may want to restart until you get a lucky piece sequence.) Make sure not to clear the line before placing the upper S and Z, or you'll leave yourself in a bad situation. This setup leaves you with a much cleaner stack after the line clear than the setup in the video does.

If you really want to squeeze every last second out of this setup, note that:
    • You can drop the O anytime after you've dropped the lower Z. You can drop the three-mino line anytime after you've dropped the S, and you can drop the T anytime after that.
    • You have some flexibility in where to place the O, I, T, and three-mino line, so you can adapt to fit the piece sequence (if you can think that fast...I sure can't).
    • You can start building on the left anytime after placing the O and I; a "downward-pointing" L works best. You can start building on the right anytime after placing the T; an "upward-pointing" J or a three-mino line works well.

  7. I just tried doing the ZT stacking with the SL blocks, and it seems like the main benefit is you can focus specifically on how to best stack IJO together by keeping your attention on those pieces in the previews. I think having 6 piece previews is even more important in order to maintain it though, because with fewer previews it would be harder to stick with such a constrained way of doing the stacking when the unexpected comes your way.

Bill, that looks like the ideal way to do the line clear. You can also use the 3-cell corner piece in place of waiting for both S/Z pieces in the second bag if you don't mind leaving a 1-cell gap in one of the middle columns.

Thanks for posting your initial set up bill. I was doing something similar, but seeing yours (and just knowing what you're doing is similar) helps a lot. Managed to get down to 30'48, though I'm not sure how much lower I can get (we'll see!).

thylacine - I'd love to hear your thoughts in the ST-stacking thread if you find time to type them up. I've been practicing a bit, though I'm still nowhere near as good as you and iphys.

  9. Hey people, I'm new to Tetris Concept and all, I got 5th in the co-op tetris wii tournament last month! (Aaron) and then I entered my confirmation code incorrectly so i got screwed out of my free wii points lol. Oh well. Couldn't help but notice a bunch of you guys were on that list with me, iphys and t block to mention a couple. I'm just learning t-spins in single player marathon so i'm not good enough to get real high scores, I mostly play for speed I guess. My tetris Friends time on facebook is 1:00.66 and (Aaron Enszer) and (www.youtube.com/shibbypod) like 1:04 something on tetrisfriends.com for tetris sprint, 58 something on LJ. I play this as much as I can, mostly I'm just looking forward to the world battle tournament on the wii. What do most of you guys play normally? Certainly not Tetris Party, with all of it's lag time, and lack of actual modes..

Look me up on youtube or facebook and give me some pointers to improving scores/times. I play southpaw so I already know I am at a disadvantage because I stack with the ditch on the left.

i used to stack the same way. it just takes a little practice to make yourself stack with the open column on the right.

if you already have Lockjaw, you could try Blockbox, Tessellate, and Texmaster. people around here play these games a lot.

  11. ok, i'll check some of those out. I'm trying to break a minute on sprint on facebook, i think part of the problem is my computer is has been getting pretty hot and it seems like the hotter it gets, the slower tetris moves [IMG] it would be cool tho to start getting better in the same clones as a lot of you guys, maybe work up a reputation for myself. I really haven't been a serious tetris player all that long. Less than 6 months on facebook (which is the main version I have been playing) and then a bunch of tetris DS. But I just got rid of my cartridge cause I bought an R4DS *(best friggin investment ever)*

  12. Hi, Shibbypod.

I'm basically playing Tetris Party till the tournaments are over, and then I'll probably rarely play it again, because I'd rather play Tetris DS or start getting into the TGM games.

You should put Lockjaw on that R4 (and NDS_TGM_20080815.nds if you can still find it somewhere). Tetris DS is worth a lot now that it's no longer available, but I don't want to sell mine, because I like having the original, and I know it will still work on the DSi if I ever find a good reason to upgrade to one -- like if there's ever a DSiWare version of Tetris or something I absolutely must have.

I still have my Tetris DS cart even after I bought my R4. It's just that the R4 lets me play Lockjaw too: look for lj.nds in your zipfile.

  15. Thats tight! Lj on R4? Im doin it. My TDS is also online compadible, and yeah i still have my cart too, just lending it to my friend who helped me get 5th on the co-op marathon tourney. I'll maybe try and sell it once he gets his r4. How much do you think it's worth?

Oh and is there a database or anything of peoples ds friend and tetris codes? Maybe i can start vsing some of you guys to help me get a litthe better.

  16. I'd be up for some battles, especially once the T Party tournaments are over. Don't sell your TDS though, because it's kind of lame to use your R4 instead of owning legit copies of the games you really like to play. Plus, the value of TDS might keep going up the harder it becomes to find, so you might be able to sell it for more later if you really want to sell it.

    According to this

    http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=3143

T Party has sold 123,200 copies in the Americas and 56,900 copies in PAL regions (and probably a lot more copies in Japan I imagine), yet there's never been more than a few thousand people competing in the tournaments and often only a few hundred. I guess most people just download the game, play it for 20 minutes, and never turn it on again. At least I don't feel bad about getting all these free Wii points knowing they are actually selling more copies of the game than it seems like, but it is sad that such a tiny percentage of people bother to compete in the tournaments.

i'll bet you many people in the tournament were discouraged after the first round of the first tourney.

i wonder what percentage of ownership can complete the 150 line marathon?

tetris will have a large install base, the game has been around for ages. i'll bet many people dl TP for nostalgia only.

tetris party did get me back into tetris tho!! I hadn't played since high school/college, and that's nearly 20 years ago. [IMG]

  18. Tetris friends on facebook is what gotme into it. I got tetris party the day it was released, and i only really participated in one tournament, the co op one. I love tetris tho and i think the most fun ones are the 40 line mode. It would be cool if tetris party had that mode and not so much line clear delay, and faster movement

  19. I'd like to introduce a new term to the tetris world. It can be used to describe what is happening while you are playing Tetris DS and the garbage lines line up perfectly for your opponant to drop a long piece in for a tetris, but any garbage lines sentto your side are so scrambled that they require you to clear them one line at a time. This situation can be referred to a "Fuck Mode". It makes you feel like the game has basically pre determined a winner, and uses this scenario to get it's desired outcome.

    The application:

well, it looks like the game is in fuck mode again!

The only reason you won was because of fuck mode

Fuck mode ruins multiplayer Tetris Ds

These are some instances where it is acceptable to use the term fuck mode. Spread the word.

  20. Fuck Mode?...Spread the word?...
I'd say: F*CK YOU! This has nothing to do with the topic! [IMG]

    Only noobs say that [IMG]

EDIT: Excuse me for my bad language...but I found it unusual...talking about tds and your ''fuck mode'' at a Tetris Party topic [IMG]
