What, ARE? It's only like eight frames at most, from what I could tell. The classic gameplay looks about as good as guideline games can these days, and if it has online versus I'm so in on it. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm excited for it.
Well Tetris DS was pretty awful as far as the actual gameplay went but the online still managed to give me hours of fun. Unless they basically null any element of speed whatsoever, or set something even more retarded than t-spins, I think the online is guaranteed to be pretty good.
i give a fuck! again, there is nothing wrong with tetris ds gameplay. if there was...u wouldnt have played it for so long. i dont need experts to tell me that a game i enjoy for over a thousand hours is actually a bad game.
I hope I'm not the only one irritated that the piece preview isn't above where the piece actually spawns. They oughta swap the position of the Mii and the preview imo.
now that i've seen the video demo for climb mode, it reminds me a lot of Krusty's Fun House which is a great game btw. that video only shows the beginning, but the game gets really hard later on. of course the key difference is that you want to destroy the rats, not save them. yes, it's not good enough to catch a rat, you have to smash or zap or explode it. and i agree with caffeine about the ARE. there's no need for any delay, no matter how short. the line clear delay and animation seems excessive too.
I played it so long because the online multiplayer was competitive. The moment the leaderboards broke and I found TGM, something which is way better, I pretty much stopped completely. It is bad, in the sense that it's nowhere near as good as they could easily make it. There's no real reason to settle for something inferior. In most guideline Tetris games from the Gameboy Tetris to Tetris DS the piece spawn has always been at the side.
I think only Evo has had it above. Apart from the TGM series games that conform to the guideline, of course.
Spawn is always at top center, within the vanish zone. I think you meant preview, right? Radica's "Tetris Color Screen" has preview at top. It has the rotate buttons in their guideline positions (clockwise at far right), and it has guideline colors, except L is black instead of orange because a 1-bit-per-channel RGB screen doesn't have orange. It even appears to have SRS and infinite spin. But then it also has "hold to next". Some games appear to have preview at right in single-player and preview at top in split-screen. All non-handheld Dr. Mario games, including both modes of Tetris & Dr. Mario (Super NES), except for Dr. Mario Online Rx (Wii), are that way. So is The New Tetris in 4 player mode.
The official japanese homepage have opened up now, there's a trailer and lots of images available. http://tetrisparty.jp/
Have I mentioned how happy I am that I'll have a reason to dust off my Wii since I wrapped up Smash Bros.? Should I go ahead and get one of those Hori Wii Sticks now or hold off? i.e., any confirmation for custom controls or no?
They do mention controls on the official homepage.. but they don't seem to mention the classic controller at all. Which means that if it, indeed, does not work with the classic controller, it won't work with the stick from hori either.
is that just a cheesy intro, or will the game feature IRS? edit: nevermind, the L is rotated twice. that isn't IRS.
If you're talking about the line clear delay in the 1-player part of the video, I'm pretty sure that's somebody soft-dropping and not manually locking, so you see the lock delay as part of the line clear delay. On TDS this would add to about 70 frames (30 lock delay + 40 line clear). Notice how the texture of the active tetromino changes halfway through this delay; that's what guideline games tend to use instead of TGM-style lock flash. EDIT: I see big mode with small pieces. <Well width: 5; Well height: 10; Piece set: All; Skin: double-size blocks>
That's what they refer to as the easy mode, apparently you can select between two block lineups for it. And if you have a Wii Balance Board, you can play this mode with that.
