Wow, a full 20-width well for doubles instead of the 14 found in TGM or the 12 in Tengen. Why did they make it so wide?
The only thing that worries me is the control scheme. Experience with the Wii has taught me that if a game isn't made by Nintendo, there's a decent chance that the controls will suck. Hopefully they'll add classic controller or Gamecube controller support, and make the controls fully customizable.
What controls do you need, other than Control Pad = move, 1 = rotate left, 2 = rotate right, B = hold, + = pause? Sonic drop? Tengen rotation? And where's the spinnaz? That ain't Tetris
B = hold is serviceable, but a bit uncomfortable. My real fear is that they may force you to use motion controls, a la Metal Slug Anthology -- where the "sideways wiimote" scheme didn't use B, but rather had you flick the wiimote to throw grenades.
Hudson recently held a WiiWare showcase event where they announced that the official title for Tetris for WiiWare is.. Tetris Wii. Logo: Apparently the game is due in july: and a couple of direct feed screenshots:
From the multiplayer screenshot it looks like they're implementing the combo system. Won't destroy the game, but I think it's a step in the wrong direction personally. Seems too much like t-spins in that it removes the focus away from Tetrising, but isn't as difficult to set up.
I think the addition of combos won't kill tetrises as much as it'll kill BtB tetrises. If it's anything like TOJ, then it looks to me like BtB combinations of tetrises, T-Spins, and combos will become THE way to win. The different properties of each technique when combined will provide for an ultimate offense and defense. And hey, look at those items...
I'm worried by the unnaturally high rate in which duplicate pieces show up in the previews. Granted, the pics might have been snapped when the sequence was in-between bags, but it feels too frequent for the usual 7-bag algorithm. We can't say anything for certain, but don't tell me they've borked the randomizer and are keeping it as a for-pay hostage again...
That's a really good catch. Take a look at this one: Look at the right player's preview -- three S blocks in a five-piece span. edit: it's possible that they're still using 7-piece bag here, but the bags are shared between players. Since it's a cooperative mode, that wouldn't be too absurd. (It's also possible that this shot is just a mockup.) edit again: ...or it could be the randomizer used in TOJ. Something else that can be gleaned from those screenshots: it looks like they're using the TDS garbage system. Is this how TOJ worked, too? There's no info on that aspect of TOJ in the wiki.
I remember TOJ works somewhat like TDS with one clear distinction: garbage tended to change column with every line clear. So a tetris would give the opponent 4 lines of clean garbage while two triples would send the opponent 4 rows with the columns divided in two. I thought that was a pretty balanced system anyhow.
I think it's very likely that the screens are just mockups for now. And even if they're not, things are likely to change until the release (which is around 5 months away).
lame garbage. items are lame. DAS will probably suck. it'll probably have that stupid targeting system. looks like there will be a big luck-factor, but i can't wait until it comes out, and i'll definitely play it a lot when it does.
the game has been delayed and renamed to Tetris Party. http://www.siliconera.com/2008/06/09/pa ... ware-soon/
Oh no! The fish have escaped from Tetris Splash and are going to invade the Wii!!! Target demographic: fucktards who'll buy anything.
Hehe, is the fish theme a new guideline standard? EDIT: On a second look, I noticed that the screenshot is of Blue Oasis and not of Tetris Party.
hi guys im new here, just came across this tetris wii news...i was really looking forward to playing the wiiware tetris in july, but now its going to be delayed? DAMNIT, is that source reliable???
