I'm pretty pleased with my Ultra 1 min run. I wonder if it's possible to go fast enough to get another t-spin double in there? I got the last one right at the buzzer.
So this is where the Tetris geeks hang out I just got the 360 version of Tetris, and I love it. I am instantly wasting away 6 hours in the blink of an eye and not even know it I am an old school tetrinet freak from my IRC'in days. Almost picked up a DS for the tetris that came out a lil while back (lucky for me they finally got a working DS emulator recently!) Anyways, glad to see the people who have played this, liked it. If anyone is on the fence with this game (eh.. im guessing not if you are on this site).. I wrote up a review @ http://www.destructoid.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4633 I have one question though, what is an "Imperial Crossing" .. I did check the wiki first of course, but the pics had little explanation for what I seen (amusing animal crossing pic btw.. even though I still dont get what the term is)
wow, i hadn't heard about that emulator--amazing. i booted up super princess peach. unbelievable. i mean, no where near playable right now, but that's totally amazing.
What browser do you use? There's some animations that don't work on Firefox. The Prophecy T-Spin video on Youtube by TripleLei shows Imperial Crossing, and the link is in the Tetris DS section of the Tetris Videos wiki page
The name of this technique is actually Imperial Cross and has been recently corrected on the wiki. One of our members found out that the name translation from Japanese was incorrect. The Animal Crossing reference was just a play of words on the wrong name. Imperial Cross is one of a multitude of setups that allow you to perform a T-Spin Double through using the T-Spin Triple twist. Anyway, back on topic...
I didn't have the patience to read the whole boring thing, but it seems to nme that Trueskill is great for competition between 3+ players. Tetris Evolution only allows for ranked 2 player matches, so something like ELO sounds better to me. Maybe I'm just too hung up on the two digit trueskill range, which seems largely lacking in skill ranking.
With Trueskill, it doesn't feel like I'm making any progress. At least on TDS I could see a change after each match.
Nicholas- I had a decent Marathon run last night, breaking the 1 mil barrier. 1.5 mil is absolutely possible.
I am quite in agreement with TrueSkill being a pretty crappy way of doing their rankings. Also, I never know if its the TrueSkill thing or not enough people online or something, but I hate playing anyone in the top 5 or so. I get my ass handed to me, and I don't know till after I look at the leaderboards who I was playing. I can't wait for any updates to this game, video backgrounds or any extra modes or just something extra. Cause I don't know a crapload of people who have this game, but the ones that do have it, are dedicated Tetris users. (I am still considering highly highly getting a crappy Mad Catz 360 controller just to have a better d-pad)
Get a joystick! Or better yet, buy a ps2 joystick and mod an 360 controler. It only took me 6 hours to destroy the Dpad! (but it does work, just not with the right buttons). Acually if you gonna mod a controller, go with a madcat controller... Bigger Dpad contacts. /rant off
what the heck? trueskill is awesome. i don't know what you guys are talking about. tetris ds ratings were so amateur. trueskill is at least more accurate than that in that it includes sigma on top of mu, and it allows only one game before throwing the player back into the random pool.
4-player worldwide TDS is the same way in effect, as it's not common at all for all four players to choose "continue". But does Xbox Live have 86420?
mu: Mean sigma: Standard deviation Trueskill computes how good you are on average (mu) as well as how inconsistent you are (sigma), and then it reports your skill as mu - k * sigma for some value k.
The top player is rated a 38, then there are a couple 37s, then a few 36s, then like six at 35, etc. This two digit number seems like a poor way to represent someone's skill. At least with TDS I could see improvement from game to game.
i think it's simple and effective. perhaps you're expecting your skill to fluctuate every game, but i don't think that's how skill development really works.
I don't like the way everyone is knotted up at the same number. Oh, and did you see that phillyzfinest had a 1.3 mil marathon run? I just had a great run on TDS stansdard marathon- just under 2 mil.
