Keep in mind that most of japan videos we can see about TAP MASTER show that there is no need to drop from 300 to do good 300-400 and 400-500 sections.. Personnaly I always try to do it until 500 but it seems to be useless..
Under 300 I have to hold the stick in a slightly uncomfortable way so that I can use the sonic drop. Once I hit 300 I usually move my hand so that it's over the stick, which gives me the much more comfortable position that I use for Death.
tried a new approach: up down motion until 250~ then trying to stack high. And it paid as my 300~400 ran under 1min05. But the 200~300 sucked lol Really angry with this game because of the 200~300 and moreover I trully fucked up with the last section locking two tetrominos in a raw in wrong places killing all my nice stack that was only waiting for two more little tetrises (and making me slow down HUGELY on the final section ) Lost ten seconds in those two compared to my usual times
That is really great times, as well as orange finish. I so want your records! But mame won't let me (must blame something)
Impressive edo.. I have to accept the fact that you can at any time take the 1st or 2nd place.. Sorry I must let you the free way for a little moment... I can't counter attack now.. I have a crazy canadian teacher who gave us so much work..Almost no tetris for few days..
My opinion of TAP's grading system did a total 180 very recently. After observing various M/Gm performances and doing some number crunching I suddenly realized that the internal grade, grade points, level multipliers, and such are all completely irrelevant to the player. I discovered that the reason for the various multiple internal grades per displayed grade is to go along with the level multipliers, so each grade requires roughly the same amount of "work" to attain. In addition to that, the internal grade system is set up so that each grade is achieved about the same number of tetrominoes apart from each other. If the player stacks efficiently and regularly makes non-singles, then they will attain an average of two grades per section, except in 400 and 500, where the player will get 1 and S1, respectively. Survival to 500 pretty much guarantees grade 1, and how well the player's skill in the first half of the game matches the second half defines how high an S grade they'll receive. So if the player is relatively unhindered by 20G and the other steadily decreasing values, then S9 is as guaranteed by 999 as much as 1 is guaranteed at 500. The decay rate doesn't encourage speedy play as much as it's there to help balance everything out. So I conclude that the grading system in TAP is nearly perfect, and doesn't encourage the player to "play fast and go for tetrises" as much as it just encourages the player to play consistently. I say "nearly perfect" because I still think the m-roll and its conditions is a dumb idea.
note that the wiki says "none of this matters if the player knows how to stack cleanly and efficiently."
Just did my first 0~100 section under one minute (57.90). Yipee ! And in the same game, 200~300 in 58.35 :mehappy:
Got this a few days ago (21st March). It's only my 3rd ever S9; my previous two, although I managed to finish, were slower than 9 minutes. I reckon this run could have been under 8:45, had I not been starved of an I piece for 19 turns at the very end...
Here's the breakdown: Code: 000-100 00:58:85 00:58:85 Tetris x 4 100-200 00:54:53 01:53:38 Tetris x 7 bronze SK @ 188 200-300 00:54:51 02:47:90 Tetris x 6 300-400 00:57:61 03:45:51 Tetris x 7 silver SK @ 346 400-500 01:05:01 04:50:53 Tetris x 2 average for first half: 00:58:10 500-600 00:57:21 05:47:75 Tetris x 1 600-700 00:47:23 06:34:98 Tetris x 1 700-800 00:45:11 07:20:10 Tetris x 5 800-900 00:40:96 08:01:06 Tetris x 6 gold SK @ 827 900-999 -------- -------- Tetris x 1 Apart from section 400-500 where I was just a single frame too slow, this could well have been an M. This is quite a surprise, because I honestly felt that I played terrible.
Code: 800-900 00:40:96 08:01:06 Tetris x 6 Holy shit !! EDIT : this is the very first time we can see a player who get through S7 S8 S9 M in a so short period..
Well, it's basically a Death M playing Master Mode seriously for the first time. And he has a lot of free time to practice
It just occurred to me that if Edo had done section 4 a frame faster, and if he had actually cleared it, he would be the top western player. Wowsers.
Nah, even if I had finished the S9 run and got an M, it wouldn't have been fast enough to beat jago's 8:29:65. My previous S8 was an 8:27:08, and I have also managed an S6 in 8:23:16, but I know that jago has performed several non-M games with times of around 8:10:00. I've seen some of jago's recent replays; he's just a more consistently fast player than I am. It would take either a lot of luck, or several hard months practice before I would even stand a chance of dethroning him. I'd also have to get through both colour_thief and Amnesia, and I don't think either of them will give up without a fight...
