Well what can I say. I really thought I'd be able to go beyond 200. Have done it plenty of times on NDS TGM, but can't do it on PC. As the time suggests I didn't use manual locking.

  2. My Death record on NDSTGM is over 600, which is far higher than my actual Death record, and I've not even played it much. Ti floorkicks, hold and three previews do make a big difference though, despite the more difficult controls.

Currently it's just plain survival. And I have to make sure I keep the stack as low as possible too.

I only use TAP rotation system when playing Death. So no hold (not that I would be able to take advantage of it anyway) and just one preview. My current record is a little over 200. Here are all my records for 10 width:

    Master : TGM rotation 587
    20G : TGM rotation 346
    Death : TAP rotaion 218
    Shirase : Ti rotation 99

Maybe we should start a thread with NDSTGM records and replays or would that be against forum policies?

Not much of an improvement, but enough to push me up one spot at least.

  5. Consecutive games:

    M
    M
    level 500 (3:25:0B)
    M
    M
    level 499 (3:19:xx)

I think I got SK silver most of those games too.

Hi all, so this is my first time playing Arika Tetris (or any 20g game really), and I find it pretty addicting. c_t directed me to this thread from IRC when I mentioned I was playing T.A. Death.
My best so far is 334 in 3:31, which is without any manual locking (I use a SNES controller to play, and mashing the down button still hurts my thumb). I also managed 316 in 3:07 with some manual lock from 0-100, I'm not sure if that's considered better or worse at this stage.

My first challenge was getting used to the very strange asymmetry of the ARS rotation mechanics, in order to know confidently which piece can go where without making drop mistakes. (I have to keep telling myself that the I block won't drop left...ever!)
Then there's the challenge of making good stacks with no holes, and of making best use of any piece that arrives to fill in the liberties of the topmost row without needlessly building higher.
And now I need to figure out how to get used to the extra speed bump at 300~
But it takes a lot of time to figure all this stuff out myself, and I don't even know if the play style I'm developing ad-hoc is even effective at all in the long run, so I ask the pros: Is there a good webpage or forum thread somewhere on advanced ARS playing strategies, both micro-level and large-scale stacking? Or can you guys give some general advice to a newcomer on how best to improve?

  8. This thread has lots of strategy discussion:
    viewtopic.php?t=981

There's also lots of technical descriptions of wallkicks and whatnot on our wiki and other websites which are useful to learn.

For now, I'd recommend to just keep playing in any way that keeps the game fun to you. There's a million things to learn, but don't feel overwhelmed. Maybe just concentrate on 1 or 2 new ideas at a time and try to incorporate them into your play style.

  9. I'd switch from this. Unless you're placing it on the floor and somehow playing with fingers, then you're going to struggle I'd expect. Playing with a keyboard or joystick is way easier.

  10. No screenshots since I keep forgetting, but I've beaten my record twice since last time I posted. Not sure on my first record break aside from level 480, but I just got 477 @ 3:17:68 -- or 3:17:65? I'm not sure; I didn't take a screen like I said, but I decided to guess higher than lower. It isn't any greater than .68, of that I'm sure.

    Upgraded my previous record.
    Level 478 in 3:35:23

I'm pretty used to Level 300 and I'm starting to get the hang of 400.

    Cruelty, thy name is Tetris...

Played on the joystick. Earlier today Texmaster Sudden gave me an M. Hopefully it won't be much longer.

It's ok guys we can relax now. The credits are just a bonus anyways.

  14. Updated record!

I'm pretty annoyed that during my best game ever my brother comes up running up the stairs yelling... like he always does when I'm playing tetris. He distracted me!!!

    Level 494 in 03:46:21

  16. Except if you view page views as points, we had enough for S9 but would have fallen a few thousand short of Gm [IMG]

  17. This is Death mode thread, silly! Making it to 999 is enough. However, TGM1 thread is seriously off pace... S5 at level 721? :<
