Let's suppose for the sake of argument that the misunderstanding is mine. What is the designation for a 240-line signal generated by a JAMMA board?
I don't own a JAMMA board, so I can't tell if it's progressive or interlaced. The fact that superguns usually need some kind of circuit to convert the signal to something a TV accepts would suggest that it is progressive, but I'm not sure. EDIT: Ultimarc.com answers: As you can read above, the progressive signal output by a JAMMA board is not a TV standard and whether or not it works depends entirely on how well your TV will operate outside the standard.
To both of you: Do you have a PS1 or a PS2? How do PS1 games look through your PS1 or PS2 on your TV? Do they look all bouncy, all blurry, or something else?
Don't have a ps2, but I'll answer about the ps3. ps1 games look crispy sharp ps1 games look really sharp, upscaled through my ps3 (even shaprer than ps1, because of HDMI probably)! ps2 games look smudgy fudgy through my ps3, unless the game has a 480p option, then it looks very sharp! Few people understand why I am so anal about 480p modes in ps2 games. To me it makes a really huge difference.
NO, normal TVs usually interpret the signal as interlaced, and show an interlaced display, with the even fields offset a little bit as always. The console NTSC encoders attempt to correct for this, using different methods, introducing artifacts on an actual progressive display. For one of the most dramatic examples of this sort of stuff, play True Pinball on the ps1 in hires mode on a standard TV. 50% of the time, you will end up with a nasty flickering mess with the even fields two pixels or so out of place. The other half of the time, you will end up with an amazingly sharp display. The metal gear slid example is particularly telling. on a normal tv, you will get slight dot crawl on the soliton radar. but on a capture board, instead of the dot crawl, you get very noticable jagged vertical lines. ALso for those who have a tg-16 many games can be put into "monitor mode." Try it on your tv then try it ona capture card.
Hey, The Sega Saturn game: Sonic Wings Special (great game btw) has this feature. But if you turn it on the play field will be reduced normal playfield: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx monitor mode: xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx Is this what you mean? I never understood this mode. So what you are saying is that the saturn outputs 480i, but this monitor mode is 240p? and so it is being displayed so tiny? Turns out this forum is light years ahead and not just on the concept of tetris. Please excuse my curiousity
Different games handle monitor mode differently. Sometimes "monitor mode" has a higher resolution, and that is the case here. It allows a more accurate aspect ratio, because it's rendered at the higher resolution, and it counts on the monitor to do the right thing and show a progressive display to make it legible. Other times monitor mode actually changes what the ntsc encoder does.
Hey thanks! I'm going to get it! You are awesome. The proof was not necessary. I'm not worthy! EDIT: Got it: http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.as ... 004468577/ it's funny to see so many games are cheaper on yesasia than on ebay and shipping is always free, yipee! 480p glory through my ps3 onto the big screen! As a noob I don;t want to resurrect another thread or create a new one, but I see that Tetris Kiwamemichi and Tetris Worlds are both by Succes. What are the differences betweem them. Or what do they have in common?
480i(640x44 Standard screen mode. 240p(640x224) The menu display will become blocky, but flicker becomes suppressed. 480p Display in progressive mode. 480p(Scanline) Display in progressive mode, with simulation of gaps between scan lines.
I have several Sega Ages games. (Fantasy Zone is coming out btw) To clarify their purposes: 480i(640x44 Standard screen mode. This mode Sucks the most of all modes, should be avoided. 240p(640x224) The menu display will become blocky, but flicker becomes suppressed. This mode is for ps2 owners. The ps3 cannot output 240p, so it will be uspcaled. 480p Display in progressive mode. This mode is for ps2 owners with a component cable/ps3 owners with a tv that can handle 480p. (But ps2 owners should just check what they like best 480p or 240p) 480p(Scanline) Display in progressive mode, with simulation of gaps between scan lines. Same as 480p, fun to try, but I don't see the benefit in this mode other than to mimic an arcade monitor displaying 240p
Entirely different games. Kiwamemichi is a port of an arcade game by Success. Success has nothing to do with Worlds besides publishing it in Japan. It was made by BPS.
Needle: thanks for the translation. i'm surprised you could read everything on the bottom line because of the angle at which i took the picture d: glad to see you're getting the game now. whether you like SRS or ARS style play, it's great to have.
Do some of you allready have this? It's a translated link, hope it works! http://66.102.9.104/translate_c?hl=en&s ... safe%3Doff I can't order it from that site. Japanese only I guess. Cool huh? Sorry if this is old news to you. The shirt is actually pretty expensive come to think of it.
I got it. looks really much better than Kiwamemichi, because Sega Ages Tetris has 480p. Check out the sharp quality! music rocks. thanks for all the answers and help. If anyone ever doubts. just get it. It's great 480p, great music at a price you can't beat.
(Cheapest panasonic 50") panasonic plasma th-50px8. Awesome screen for the money, with lots of scale screen options. So it's 480p upscaled to 1366 X 768.
