The importance of the rating system is only lessened by the fact that there are no separate ratings for the different modes. Otherwise, I'd say the rating system is very effective except for the very minor flaws.
Seem to be coming second less now and winning more, though i'm still improving... Second place is more annoying when playing someone at 7000 and then two others below 6000 as second place still loses you 50+ points, meaning, providing you win 50% and the other high ranked player wins 50% you actully both go down in ratings as you get 30 for the win but lose loads for coming 2nd. And coming 3rd? That's just disastrous
