You need an adapter and a driver for the Xbox controller, but the Xbox 360 controller just needs a driver.
Actually, I've been holding out till M$oft releases the 360 gamepad for the CPU.. is it out? If not I'll just go over to a friends shop and get a wired 360 controller.. So it's confirmed that it works huh? Full features like pressure triggers and second analogue? Vibration?
wait you want to buy an classic X360 game pad for playing Tetris ? the X360 D-Pad totally SUCK ! I totally not recommend you to acquire this things specificaly for tetris. and the analog stick is not better for puzzle game... So Mr. Antisocial, Since how long time have you played before reaching TGM1 Gm Grade ? How do you feel ?
Yeah, I heard it's bad for Street Fighter too. But I use my gamepad for alot of things.. Mame.. Colin McRae.. Tetris.. I just started playing PSO private server too. 360 D-PAD can't suck any harder than SideWinder's D-PAD Not to mention - the dust that gets stuck inside makes it very un-responsive, thus, requires cleaning every now and then. I feel the that 360 gamepad is the best now, ergonomicly, and that smooth white feel around it. Good stuff. Better than dual-shock. Umm.. again, why does it suck? Personal opinion or he says she says?
The X360 pad is not good at all for all game that need fast & precice mouvement input eg : fighting game & puzzle game (presently TGMA) The ergonomy is not good for that kind of game because too much input merge error : for example you press right, but most of the time you can expect that up or down is also pressed. this gamepad is certainly cool for other kind of game but stay away if it's just for tetris... it's my opinion (i usually use arcade stick but i've played with better game pad) but also a large report from Japanese TGMA players... even Mihara mentionned it (if i remember well)... ps : i've bought DOA X360 arcade stick... witch is not a bad solution if you want to use and USB arcade stick on your PC.
Ok, I decided NOT to get an xbox360 controller. My local radio shack has a ps2-usb converter, so I'll just get that for $11. I found this site with possible drivers- Tepples, do you think that's what I'll need?
All PS/USB converters are not created equal. Some shitty ones will only poll for input 20 times per second, totally unsatisfactory for frame-critical gameplay. The best USB converter according to this site which did a comparison of various products is the Sanwa Supply JY-PSUAD1, which polls 54 times/sec. No other USB converter tested reached that rate of frequency. However, this is still below 60 which is the frame rate most games work by. If you must surpass this, a DirectPad Pro cable is needed, which is essentially a converter which connects to the parallel port instead of USB. According to the tests, it is capable of 44 times/sec under Windows 2000, and a whopping 176 times/sec under Windows 98. One advantage of the DPP is that the wiring is simple and open, so if you have a soldering iron and a couple of parts, you can build one yourself without the hassle of importing from afar. (You can also buy premade DPP cables from people who make them.) While going back to Win9x to get the best response performance would be somewhat inconvenient, 44 times/sec on Win2000 is still not bad compared with other converters. And yes, the X360 d-pad sucks. I play TGMA using the analog stick. It took getting used to, but works much better than the dreaded d-pad which produces mis-drops and unintended movements at an alarming rate.
do you think <a href="http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/games/pid/7243425/a/XB360+Controller-EX+Turbo.htm">this </a> x360 pad will work with usb/pc just needing a driver, too? edit: <a href="http://gear.ign.com/articles/683/683344p1.html">this</a> dpad looks fine as well. i'm going to go see what ebgames has in stock.
You silly people and your D-Pads. Don't get me wrong, I love using them, just not for Tetris. Somebody please recommend the USB Saturn pad.
silly people and their arcade sticks. when will they learn the keyboard's the only way to play tetris.
Silly people and their keyboards. When will they learn that the IPod wheel is the only way to play Tetris?
I agree. I love using the keyboard for tetris now. (Played Heboris Devil every day, and no TDS for awhile.) D-Pads feel very slow in comparison.
I still enjoy playing with keyboard. I just don't think D-Pads are really all that good. Also: Man do I want one of these for non-Tetris games. A friend of mine has one and it feels like sex.
Despite having mis-drops while using the 360 d-pad.. I don't think that's a problem with me.. That's if, you're performing stuff like zangi-moves, and simple sonic-drops with slides. I'll give you guys my opinion as soon as I get the controller. (read below why I haven't gotten it yet) Game shops here work very differently. Ridiculous mark-ups and uneducated store keepers. First shop, but my friend wasn't there, I ask how much for the 360 cont. I see over there, he says, RM199(54USD).. Whoa, I asked, wired or wireless? He said, wireless.. "Got wired wan ah?".. "GOT".. Skipped to another shop, "Sorry, out of stock/no more stock".. What that means is, "Sorry, we have never gotten it before", "Sorry, we have no idea what it is".. "Sorry, please go somewhere else".. This is very common. Last shop, 3rd party 360 cont, wired, RM199(54USD), LOL(it's the same price as the original Microsoft controller). And the shop keeper was trying real hard to push it to me. Good luck, I made him feel shitty by telling I could get an original controller for way less. I should have stucked with my friend in the first place, a wired 360 cont. RM124 = USD33.5.. 1 week time.. sigh You guys got it good there with Gamestop/Target/ETc. and also support(MS, Ninty, Sony).. If my 360 screws up, to Singapore it goes.
