1. ### DDRKirby(ISQ)

Seems like there's a little bit of interest, so I'm making one here. Gosh, this just reminds me of how many other events I have no recorded times for (BLD, one-handed, Magic, 5x5x5, etc). Bah. I only ever got serious about normal 3x3x3 anyways. Some of these times I just took from WorldCubeAssociation.org because I can't find my unofficial records for anything besides 3x3x3.

Let me know if you want any other categories and I'll add them up.

2. ### Burbruee

3x3x3 Single best time: 58.XX seconds.

3. ### K

hello,
so there is speedcuber around here !!
i played rubik long time ago and my best was something around 55sec...(3*3*3 of course)
but i was just too lazy to learn the friedrish method completely... and the impossibilty to find good rubik's cube and mate around me just faded my interest...

4. ### LewisUnregistered

My records:
3x3 : 25.89s
4x4: 1min 40.23
Magic : 2.59s
2x2 : 2.45s
2x2 (Non-lucky) : ~7 seconds
(I don't usually have the patience to do an average of 12)

I also solve a lot of other similar puzzles, as well as building a few.

5. ### Pineapple

What's the difference between rolling and non-rolling?

6. ### DDRKirby(ISQ)

non-rolling means you take 12 solves, discard the fastest and slowest, and take the average.

rolling means you take ANY number of solves, take the 12 (minus 2) consecutive solves that give you the fastest average, and take that.

7. ### K

So finally, did the rubik's company moved forward to provide material specific for speedcubing or are we still obliged to search for old editions or open box for testing ?

Most speedcubers these days use DIY cubes which you assemble yourself. They're very reliable in terms of quality; you just need to assemble them, adjust the tension to your liking, then spray lubricant and you're set (though you may have to break it in a bit before it becomes really optimal).

Some people still like to use store-bought cubes but I have NEVER had any good experiences with store cubes. I hear that nowadays they're better than they used to be but I still don't trust them. Other people swear by some specific versions, like '80s cubes or something like that, but honestly DIYs are the way to go.

Rubiks.com is probably the easiest way to acquire a DIY kit. Cube4you.com is generally regarded as being "better" in that they have cheaper prices and a better selection (they have 3 or 4 different types of 3x3x3 diy kits), not to mention they carry a bunch of other products too (like Eastsheen 4x4x4s). It's based in China though, so the shipping generally costs more and it's a bit more trouble. Worth it if you are serious about it though.

Also, V-Cubes has designs for 6x6x6 and 7x7x7 (and a new design for the 5x5x5 IIRC). I have one of each and they're not half bad, especially considering the required complexity of the mechanism.

Personally I'm pretty unique with my cubes. My current 3x3x3 speedcube has a custom center "sticker" that I made myself (it's really just photo paper). All of the stickers are sealed in with clear nail polish which gives for a unique glossy finish. I'm the only one I know of that does this. I also make custom designs for cubes as a hobby:

My current speedcube

The 4 Tetris Attack Cubes that I made. I sold 3 of them to members of tetrisattack.net.

2x2x2s are a lot less work than 3x3x3s!

9. ### rednefed

I don't speedcube, but my brother does.
3x3x3, best = 28 seconds. Average of 35 seconds. He has a 4x4x4 but can't solve it in any decent time, and therefore is deathly afraid of it being scrambled.

10. ### XeaL

rolling 12: 22.xx

fastest flukey: 14.xx
