This just in: I think TTC may be trying to take down Blockles. Startupsearch.org says Biosocia, Inc are the guys who run iminlikewithyou.com . So long, "new crappy online multiplayer site." Maybe this means TTC is going to make a move towards their own online multiplayer? EDIT: Apparently the news beat me.
ouch. does it matter that the site name was changed to omgpop.com? will this at least delay the lawsuit for a short while?
I know of no U.S. case about an alleged Tetris knockoff that 1. didn't involve a name too close to "TETRIS", 2. interpreted 17 USC 102(b), and 3. was decided in Elorg/TH/TTC's favor. The closest one I see trotted out is Luxury International v. U.S. In this case, Luxury was trying to import LCD block games, but U.S. Customs held the alleged knockoffs at the border at Elorg's request. The judge ruled in favor of the U.S. because Luxury didn't follow the proper procedure to contest Elorg's claim of copyright, not on the merits of Elorg's claim. But of course, I'm no lawyer.
well lets see. the facebook page for blockles shamelessly admits that blockles is a tetris clone. And apparently it's an attempt to duplicate the korean online official tetris (which the guy played while in Korea and liked) by the authors' own admission. I suspect the reasons the clones we like to play aren't getting FLAGGED as much is simply because they are much harder to find.
