The difference between mechanical and non-mechanical is day and night. I had no idea how much I was disadvantaging myself until I had a quick go of my brothers mechanical keyboard several months ago. If youre playing Tetris on a keyboard, than PLEASE upgrade to a mechanical one (with MX Cherry switches) ASAP (thats, providing you havent already done so). - Jono

No problem, it's normal and I guess that having a good community is a great way to being motivated to improve in a game! So, win 2 seconds in a week juste beacause of a new keyboard is really awesome! So what kind (color) of MX switches have you choose ?
Well, it wasn't 'just' the new keyboard...I did have to play the game still But with the new keyboard I am now (finally) able to play on 100 ms DAS comfortably - which makes a world of difference. I am using the 'blue' MX switches (which I highly recommend) - I love the inappropriately loud 'clicks' they make Most people favor 'red' MX switches which I hear are better for gaming, but horrible for typing. - Jono
It seems weird to me, I always heard that the blue switches are made for typing and not at all for gaming compared to all the others kind of switches, but I think blues are already miles better than a generic keyboard
They are indeed intended for typing, but they are perfectly fine for gaming too - that much I can assure you I would recommend tying a few different types of switches and see which you favor first, but for me the feel (and sound) of the 'blue' MX switches is perfect - Jono
That's a "myth" that was spread by people who didn't even game, and tried to back it up with stupid stuff. Blues will react just like any of the other switches will. In reality, all Cherry MX switch types feel very close to each other. The biggest difference is the spring weight imo. Another problem with MX switches is that the tactile bump wears out after long periods of use. So frequently used keys, like those used in gaming for example will eventually wear out and become more linear than the rest. That is my argument for choosing linear switches in the first place.
This is really impressive! Jono I've got a mechanical keyboard with black switches, do you have an opinion on those? I haven't used it for Tetris but I am curious how well suited it would be.
There is no denying that blue and red switches are equally responsive, but like you said the spring weights do vary, making some (such as the red and brown switches) slightly easier to press than others. As youre probably already well aware thats one of the main reasons gamers (tend to) favour the red and brown switches; as they are (slightly) easier to press, (technically) making double-taps and such easier and faster, but at the end of the day I think its best to use what feels most comfortable for you. I not really over concerned about the bump wearing out either; only costs about $3.5US to replace a switch and I only use 7 keys for gaming. I haven't actually used ''black'' switches before, but technically speaking a keyboard with them should work very well indeed, but like I said earlier its all about what ''you'' feel comfortable with using. Steelseries did some "blind" testing with the pro gamers they sponsor before choosing the black switches for their keyboards (when I asked them, they claimed to have tested every switch under the sun). I think they are a good choice, but any MX switch is very nice. Like Jono said, just pick one you like (or think you will like). As someone who's been using MX switches (and others) for many years now, I suggest you go with one of the stiffer springs like black, or blue. There's even some reasonably priced Topre keyboards out now. The whole double tapping thing comes from something else which I wont even mention because it's stupid as hell, and that's not the reason why reds are popular. When mech keyboards were starting to get popular, everyone was hearing about all the Cherry MX switches, and no one made keyboards with reds. Eventually the hype got out of hand, and companies started selling them in NA.
