Nice one, Kiruat. Your stacking is improving and getting a lot cleaner. [IMG]

I've decided to ban the 'Bottom blocks' feature since it has the potential to break the current game. Any questions, comments, concerns, or complaints?

  4. Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds

I am not even sure what that is.

Basically, when you place a tetromino, it takes gaps into account from the bottom of the well up, rather than the other way around. Tepples explained it better in a recent post in this thread:

Cute lil' animation I whipped up demonstrating this behavior:

Very nice game Kiruat! Your stacking took a huge turn for the better. Looks like you're beginning to recognize how everything fits together and how to incorporate that into the preview.

78tpm-- that puts you at about average. try harder!

i wonder what "average" really comes out to for people who like playing tetris... i'd bet about 1 piece per second. 2 per second seems to be the fanatic mark. no?

  13. Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds

it'd be different for different games/scenes. but what i remember from tnet, 30-60 for noobs. 70-80 was average. 90-120 was good. 130-150 was great (i remember a bunch a people who leveled off at 120, then another group who leveled off at 140). and then there were a few crazy people at 160, and a loner at 180ish in his prime.

i'd say for nowadays tetris: <1 tps for new. 1 tps for casual. 1.5 for experienced. 2 for someone who pushes themself. 2.5 for someone who is experienced and pushes themself (that's the hard part). and then >3 for players with all that and exceptional concentration/routine.

  14. Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds

There is no way Tetris nubs can get 1tps. Not even close. 0.5 would be a far more accurate figure.

I'd say 60tpm is a figure for people who are reasonably competent at it.

  15. Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds

that's why i said <1. tps isn't even reasonable competent. i'm fairly sure any guy who hasn't played before can reach 1 tps after about 10 hours of playing.

    Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds

I learned Tetris on an NES. I didn't get anywhere near 1 tps after my first 20 hours.

  17. Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds

in nes tetris, you must soft drop, right? that takes about two seconds from top to bottom, doesn't it?

    Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds

NES soft dropping is 0.5G, as are sections 19 through 28. But this TAS seems to go significantly faster than 1 tps because the player builds a platform (a la push) to build toward the top.

I also used to play Microsoft Tetris, which had hard drop, but I couldn't go 1 tps in that either.

On newer games, even with hard drop, I didn't immediately shoot to 1 tps the moment I bought Tetris DS. I had a hard time beating CPU 4 the first day.

  19. Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds

i guess i'm wrong, but i seem to remember brand new players of tnet making 1tps very early on. maybe it's the versus angle.

    New Score... Barely an increase.

    Code:
    Cleared 40 lines
    on 2007-11-20 at 21:19
    (rot=Arika, lock=Move reset, rnd=7-piece Bag, spin=3-corner T, speed=Zero)
    (grav=Naive, drop=None, are=0 ms, das=150 ms Instant, shadow=Faint color, next=8 pieces)
    (10x20, bottom=Off)

    Played for 0:53.88 (active 0:49.26)
Played 106 tetrominoes (118.03 per minute,
    129.09 per active minute)
Pressed 350 keys (3.30 per tetromino)

    Made 41 lines
    (single: 0; double: 4; triple: 3; home run: 6; T single: 0; T double: 0; T triple: 0)
Sent 37 garbage (41.20 per minute)
    Left 10 blocks behind

    LJ score: 11500
EDIT: New score, 1 seconds faster. Oh and how do you decide who is higher if the time is exactly the same...

Update 2: Fixed the same time... .07 second increase again.
