Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds 33.88! I've finally achieved my very long term goal of three tetrominoes per second. How does the saying go? "Infinite happiness?" =] To celebrate, I made a camera POV video for you to watch. You can also download the replay. And I even uploaded a spreadsheet containing stats for every game I played since 9/7/2008. The camera POV video isn't the same record as the one I've posted here, but strangely I tied 33.88 for the video. I've been using the chain method to motivate me. To make an X on a date, I need to play forty lines for at least fifteen minutes that day. My chain spans from 9/7/08 to today (10/5/0. I didn't miss a single day! According to my spreadsheet, in this duration I've played 22 hours worth of forty lines, laid 201393 tetrominoes, and pressed 591782 keys! Code: Result: Cleared 40 lines at level 40 on 2008-10-05 at 13:05 Played 103 tetrominoes in 0:33.88 (182.39/min) (active time only: 0:28.75, 214.95/min) Pressed 291 keys (2.82/piece) Made 40 lines (single: 23; double: 7; triple: 1; home run: 0; T single: 0; T double: 0; T triple: 0) Sent 9 garbage (15.93 per minute) Left 12 blocks behind LJ score: 5800 Options Well: 10x20, Enter: Above Speed: Zero, ARE: 0 ms Randomizer: Bag of Tetrominoes Hold: Off, Rotation: SRS Lock: Move reset, Deep: Off Line clear: 0 ms Naive, Gluing: Off Drop score: None, T-spin: Off Garbage: Off, DAS: 100 ms Instant Soft drop: 1G Slide, Hard drop: Lock Shadow: Fainter color, Next: 3
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds congrats caffeine! you definitely earned 3 tps with your dedication.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Congrats caffeine! And WOW at the wild tapping on the keyboard. I'm a lot more relaxed when playing. I'll work on changing that. As for me, I currently get times under 01:05 quite often. Shouldn't take long before I improve a little again.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds I see what you mean from watching your video. Some mad skills there.....think I'll be sticking with a joypad for now though, as I still just can't get used to playing tetris on a keyboard - especially as I don't want to be bashing my lovely overpriced apple keyboard to death. I really need to get myself a nice cheap keyboard to practice on. Just out of curiosity, does anyone else on here actually use a joypad?
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Joypad? When I have to play with one, like with TDS or the upcoming Tetris Party.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds I think you'd be better switching to using a keyboard and just sticking with it until you get used to it. I can't see how it couldn't be faster in the long run really, because you have 10 digits to use instead of just 2 (not counting shoulder buttons, which still would only give 4 or 6).
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds i like using a joypad for games with slow DAS, probably because i've had so much practice with TDS. in games like that, you can get a strong feel for the sideways speed and hold left or right until the piece is lined up correctly. with faster DAS you have to do a lot more tapping, and the thumbs are just too slow at that.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds I've always used a Nintendo 64 controller for Lockjaw (Allegro version). I did this about two years ago (LJ 0.1 and then plateaued due to A.C.:
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds I think I'm the only person who does around here. But this is because it's uncomfortable for me to use the keyboard for an extended period of time.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Code: Result: Cleared 40 lines at level 40 on 2008-10-14 at 19:38 Played 102 tetrominoes in 0:59.48 (102.88/min) (active time only: 0:54.65, 111.98/min) Pressed 409 keys (4.00/piece) Made 40 lines (single: 14; double: 6; triple: 2; home run: 2; T single: 0; T double: 0; T triple: 0) Sent 18 garbage (18.15 per minute) Left 4 blocks behind LJ score: 7600 Options Well: 10x20, Enter: Above Speed: Zero, ARE: 0 ms Randomizer: History 6 rolls of Tetrominoes Hold: On, empty, Rotation: Arika Lock: Move reset, Deep: Off Line clear: 0 ms Naive, Gluing: Off Drop score: None, T-spin: Off Garbage: Off, DAS: 166 ms 1G Soft drop: 1G Slide, Hard drop: Lock Shadow: Color, Next: 1 This is hardly an improvement, but I promised a replay so here it is: http://www.sendspace.com/file/wxk7h1 LJ 0.45! After playing only SRS games for a while I had some difficulty getting times under 01:10 again. But currently I can get close to 1:05 pretty often again. Hopefully this is the first step towards a sub 55 seconds time. I'm not really comfrortable with the 166 ms DAS yet and instant is still too sensitive for me. I see Kevin Birrell improved his time switching to SRS. I might try that as well later this week. As for Lockjaw on DS, getting under 1 minute seems a lot more difficult than I expected... @ DIGITAL: tepples' time is 0:59:38, but his position on the leaderboard is correct. EDIT: I was wondering what the fastest known time is for a 40 lines clearing challenge? Currently on Tetris Online Japan there is a female member with a time of 00:25:942 in Time Attack Mode!!! And the crazy thing is that it clould have actually been faster seeing the replay. Maybe I'll be posting a video of the replay later.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Thanks for pointing out the error. As for the fastest known time for "40 lines", I'd have a hard time pin-pointing it outside of LJ. The guideline modes are relatively slow and the unofficial modes are too varied. Maybe instead of 40 lines, you could perhaps measure TPM? It's a lot more standard across the board. I've seen upwards of 250+ TPM in Shirase videos. And then there is polly's Quadra video at 292 TPM (which I'm still doubting). The time in TOJ, I'm kind of suspicious about as well. 25:942 would average out to about 231 TPM. You'd have to have some inhuman tapping skills (due to the high KPT from tapping finesse) to play that fast with TOJ's DAS. I mean, I thought blink was already approaching the limit with his sub 33 second times...
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Remember that Quadra only counts what LJ refers to as "active time", meaning ignoring line clear delay and entry delay.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Yeah, though even with that in mind, his speed is still well over 4.5 TPS in that video. I'd have to see it live to believe it. We should invite him here. Anyone want to PM him on youtube?
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds He didn't post the video to Youtube in the first place, but he's on Quadra regularly. You're wasting your time, though. Quadra guys in general are only interested in The One and True Quadra.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Polly plays Cultris as well, I believe. At least he did when I was playing it. Unless I confused him for someone else which is more than possible. People using the same nick and changing nicks causes a bit of confusion but I thought I remember him playing it.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds And actually, jujube reminded me yesterday that polly might have signed up for TC already under a different name. What's even more interesting is that we've played this member before in a flash game someone posted awhile back.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds 49.90 with 0G ARS but it's not an improvement, though my tpm was 1 higher. 0G Lockjaw feels better than 0G Hebo.
