Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds that's nice steady improvement caffeine, which i'm sure is tough when you're already in the 30s. i was wondering... are you consistently leaving only a few blocks behind? is your focus more on keeping the stack low or keeping TPM high? or some other conscious plan? do you think 3 previews is better (i.e. less distracting) than 6-8? i seem to remember you used to use more previews.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds A few months back I realized I play better with three previews. Any more and I'll get mixed up. I've noticed Jono also plays three. Most games I leave eight blocks behind (102 tetrominoes to finish). I do this without effort, so it's not something I consciously attempt to do. I don't think in terms of keeping TPM high. I think in terms of keys per second, which correlates with TPM, but is much more practical to grasp. I've begun to notice times when maybe I'll encounter a hard scenario and my KPS will take a nose dive, and I'll lose my rhythm. I think these are the main road blocks for me. My PRs usually are very rhythmic and have consistent KPS. When I get "in the zone" and know I'm playing well, then I'll focus only on pressing the keys faster. During those times, I see the most improvement.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Sorry for the huge delay, everyone. The leaderboard has now been updated. Let me know if there are any inconsistencies.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Sorry to burst your bubble caff. New record, woot! Finally, I was able to somewhat transfer my progress from Texmaster onto LJ. Here's an ARS run to show that's there's still hope for ARS players! Code: Cleared 40 lines at level 60 on 2008-09-28 at 22:41 Played 103 tetrominoes in 0:31.85 (194.03/min) (active time only: 0:21.93, 281.76/min) Pressed 275 keys (2.66/piece) Made 40 lines (single: 17; double: 2; triple: 1; home run: 4; T single: 0; T double: 0; T triple: 0) Sent 21 garbage (39.56 per minute) Left 8 blocks behind LJ score: 8200 Options Well: 10x20, Enter: Below Speed: Rhythm 20G, ARE: 66 ms Randomizer: History 6 rolls of Tetrominoes Hold: On, empty, Rotation: Arika 1 FK+initial Lock: 316 ms Step reset, Deep: Off Line clear: 16 ms Naive, Gluing: Off Drop score: None, T-spin: Off Garbage: Off, DAS: 83 ms 1G Soft drop: 1G Lock, Hard drop: Lock Shadow: Fainter color, Next: 3
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Congrats DIGITAL! Also why does LJ say there were 8 blocks left behind when there were clearly 12?
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds I'm not sure exactly. I'll have to watch the replay. EDIT: It just dawned on me. We forgot to count the hold piece.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds So, you are really back DIGITAL.. Thank you for this experience, I was seriously doubting about the potential of ARS at very high speed.. So now, there is lot of chance that ARS can go as fast as SRS at least.. What are the differences between Rythm 20G and DEATH speed curve ?
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds What did I tell you about breaks!? Why have you been doubting ARS's speed? It was primarily built to be fast in 20G. Actually, I'm not so sure myself. I could have sworn that choosing the Death speedcurve would have prevented you from altering your delays but apparently, that is not true. Perhaps tepples could come and clarify this for us. But with that uncertainty aside, Rhythm 20G is basically a linear 20G curve that locks the tetromino with a beat timing.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Nice one, DIGITAL. Maybe DIGITAL took the replayed score data instead of the original score data. I find the two to be a little different. Everyone should keep in mind that the difference in KPT advantage that SRS has over ARS is very small. In that respect, anyone with the right skills can go very fast with nearly any rotation system. The biggest key saver is autorepeat.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds They're called "maximum entry delay" and "maximum sideways delay" for a reason. If a speed curve sets ARE and DAS, this means you can't make ARE and DAS longer than what a speed curve sets, but you can make them shorter. If you want accurate TAP-style speed curves, set them to the longest ARE (30 frames) and DAS (15 frames) that ever occur in the game.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds I mentioned in an edit above that we forgot to include the hold piece in our calculations. I took the original data. The replay sometimes appears differently for some weird reason.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Sorry I don't follow. How does having hold make 12 blocks left into 8 blocks left? (I can see it the other way around.)
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds There are 3 unused pieces... 2 are on the screen and 1 is in Hold. So there are 12 blocks total with only 8 on the stack.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Oh, I see. In your original figure you were already including the hold piece as one left behind.
Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Not a big improvement at all, but I will take any improvement at this point.

Re: [Lockjaw] 40 Lines & 180 Seconds Wow, it's been a while since I've touched this mode (or any kind of tetris game for that matter) and good to see so many new scores and improvements (a little too good for my liking! ). It's gonna be tough trying to compete with everyone but hopefully I'll be getting back into the swing of playing a lot more tetris again - it should be fun, I just hope the RSI doesn't get too bad though.....dunno how all you lot cope!
