If it's worth anything, I bought a VSHG this week, and it came yesterday (on the third working day after ordering). It's extremely good. I like the clickyness and responsiveness of the stick, and generally it feels extremely weighty and solid. I feel like I could throw it at a wall, and it would damage the wall more than the stick (though I wouldn't test it). Changing from an 8-way to a 4-way wasn't that difficult with PetitPrince's guide, though getting into the thing took a while, because I didn't have the right tools on-hand. My only complaint is that the buttons are really sensitive, but that is more a problem with me being an idiot than with the stick itself, and I'll get used to it. I kept using bombs on DoDonPachi by accidentally activating the button when I was just resting my finger on it a bit too heavily. Not a problem, I'll just rest my fingers differently, and if it was a real pain, I could always change the buttons. VSHG really is an awesome piece of kit. Pricey perhaps, but you really do get what you pay for.
And it's made to last too, even if you wear out individual components you can easily change them because it's based on the arcade standard - so you can buy new parts. If you get a cheaper stick it likely won't last as long because of cheaper proprietary components, and then they are worn out it'll be hard to change them because you can't buy new ones. So it's fully possible you'll have to buy a completely new Arcade Stick.
You think I could play these without breaking the buttons? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07cKPs0Begk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJSxde9leD0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gZLpKhxK9w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gm-VDQjd63Y PS: that guy is the best stepmania player in the world, Im not that good XD. PPS: can anyone tell me the shipping price to the states?
I reckon you probably could, using Joy2Key to map the buttons. They're pretty good for quick presses. I've not tried it out with FFR/Stepmania yet though. Also, the total cost to the US comes out around $125 USD from Play-asia, but there is another site which is slightly cheaper.
I will take the cheapest way possible, even though Play Asia is a very trustworthy site. Link please? I may decide not to go to the other site. I really want the stick. Also, I quit stepmania a while ago and went to FFR because of speed mods, got about 365 Tier points, and now I want to go back to stepmania.
For the US, I think that the cheapest option is sometimes here: http://www.ncsxshop.com/cgi-bin/shop/HSN-0011.html
Ah cool, 119$ with shipping. Im probably gonna get it there then. I know its only about 6$ less, but thats a lot to me, since I only get paid 6$ an hour, and I am only 16, lol.
sorry for double post, but I just have to ask this, because I am probably making the purchase tonight or tomorrow. Is there a good stick that also works with the PS2? Because I got Mushihimesama, and it is AMAZING. And it would be a little more fun with an arcade stick. If not, I don't care, Ill buy that stick anyway.
Hehe, nevermind, bought it. Playing that ridiculous bullet hell Mushihimesama is easier with the D-Pad I got to this boss today:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wt4f-h7YW6w didn't beat it though.
May I ask how you're playing it? I was under the impression that the VSHG won't work on a PS2, so I've never tried it.
You can't use the VSHG on the Playstation 2 but you can play Playstation 2 games with it if you're playing on a Playstation 3 (unless you have a newer version with the backwards compatibility removed).
Actually, it's kind of funny. I own several PCs and a Wii, so my incentives for getting any other console are scarce, but if the PS3 ever got affordable in the future I'd be considering to get one to play PS2 titles with the updated-graphics mode (I've seen awesome screenshots of that). So Sony's silly move to take out the Emotion engine and disable PS2 compatibility has completely removed any motivation for me to ever buy a PS3. Maybe I'll just get a secondhand PS2 (the thin version) and play PS1 and PS2 games on that. Not like I have a HDTV (my main computer monitor is a 24" LCD) anyway.
It does annoy me that they removed the compatibility for PS2 games. It's not like it made the console much cheaper either. It basically killed my desire for a PS3. Made even more annoying by the fact that my PS2 is slowly dying, and is refusing to play any games that use the older purple/blue discs. Only scratch-free newer games will work, or I just get "Disc Read Error".
Yeah, it's a ridiculous move on Sony's part.. the only thing they ensured is that by the time that I do get a PS3 - i'll most likely try to track down a used one with the backwards compatibility in place, which means that Sony won't get a dime from my purchase.
Ok. It came in! What settings do you guys use? Cause I can't seem to get the stick directions to work right.
The VSHG use something called a "POV hat" for the stick movements, the problem is that some games assume that you don't want to use a POV hat and won't let you configure that. This is why we use Joy2Key to remap the POV Hat on the VSHG to keys on the keyboard instead.
Heboris requires Joy2Key (which you can use for everything if you want to), but only for the actual stick. The buttons work fine. MAME has no problems with the VSHG. You just enable joystick inputs in the main menu, and change the controls accordingly on the in-game one. You'll also be torn between having it 8-way or 4-way, especially if you play shmups. 4-way restriction works far better for Tetris, but makes bullet hell shmups a damn sight harder because moving diagonally is practically impossible (though not completely, because you can still activate the diagonal switches slightly with the 4-way restriction).
Thats what I meant, I can't get it to work with JoytoKey. I use JoyToKey for every thing. PS: I want to map the PS, Select, L2, and R2 buttons for stepmania/FFR. What number are they in joytokey?
