Aaaah, no... It's progressive. If you do 7 singles in a row, the 3rd and 4rd (2ren and 3ren) each send 1 line, the 5th and 6th (4ren and 5ren) each send 2 lines, and the 7th (6 ren) sends 3 lines. And the lines that are sent are in addition to any other lines that the line clear action sends, so 5 doubles would be 1,1,2,2,3 for a total of 9, and a DSS is 15 (4,5,6). So pretty much anything that is effective in TDS is also effective in TOJ, but also extending a combo with singles and doubles, if you can be sure of getting to 2ren (at the very least). It may also be worth going tetris single single tetris and losing the back to back bonus.
oh okay, so then that changes everything. the new rule: 3 ren = double; 5 ren = tetris; 9 ren = tspin.
I really wonder how garbage works with bravos. I remember jujube was knocked out swiftly a few times when some people did it.
Interesting. So TOJ isn't the first game to recognise a bravo in vs... With some assistance from jujube, TOJ looks to give 7 lines for a bravo. In the video, it sends 8, but one of that is from the 2ren. And to tell you how borked this randomizer is... 5 piece bravos are unpredictably possible. It relies on the bonus piece in the first bag being O, and 5 of the first 6 pieces being IJLOO. It also relies on you stacking in advance for it. It's something to watch out for... It's 1/7 that the extra piece is O in the first bag, and 6/56 that you will get the pieces in the right order (any order will do the the main 5, but the order is important relative thr the rest of the bag). So the total chance is 6/392 = 1.53% which means roughly once in every 66 games.
i think it's unfortunate that so much garbage is sent. a tetris bravo sends a minimum of 11 lines of garbage, most likely topping someone out unless you do it at the start of the game. couldn't you be rewarded with exp points instead?
It would make much more sense if you could SET UP Bravos by using the 6 previews, but no, they had to go and lock 4 of them. That's also why I don't like doing T-Spins in this game.
The future: Sure, we'll give you something comparable to Neave's N-Blox or Miniclip's game or Striptetris for free, but the rest: Buy hold. Buy ghost. Buy block colors (as opposed to monochrome [] of Ti Shirase levels 1000-1300). Buy soft drop. Buy lock delay. Buy wallkicks. Buy DAS. Buy each direction of rotation. Buy ARE faster than the 1000ms of Tetrinet. Now what's "broken Tetris"?
shh...don't give them any ideas TOJ is basically Tetris Zone + multiplayer. if you need any help getting registered go to #arika at Quakenet or blockstats chat, and someone can probably step you through it.
i agree, the way things are it definitely takes some luck to make a bravo. and i'm making less T-spins in TOJ than TDS because of the 2 previews. you really have to remember when the last T came so you have some idea of when the next will come.
From the way it sounds, I really do think bravos are too powerful and rely too much on luck. I like the x2 garbage based on your line clear idea better than the auto 7 rows of death idea.
Nah, not completely random. In the hands of a skilled player, 5 of them can quite easily spell doom to almost any opponent.
The one that's free is the S or the Z. We definitely don't want people starting with bars like the Tetris DS hackers! The L's, J's and O's would also allow for too many quick bravos, and we want to make sure you can't just repeatedly T-spin people to death. *edit* Yes, I know that I just put Lardarse's take on things in full detail. It's just more fun in detail.
Hmm, the S and Z can be stacked vertically side by side to create insane combos. I think the T is the piece with the least potential.
