it's your wrist correct? have you gotten yourself a brace so you don't bend your wrist when you shouldn't? these things work great in the restaurant business, where CTS is a big issue.

you need to learn some proper nerve glides to keep those nerves moving properly. ouch pain sucks especially when it happens doing something you enjoy doing.

it's so easy to get into a cycle where you break just long enough to tolerate the activity that gives you issues again. some proper exercises in between sessions should be a good help to you.

k, back on topic. I'm going to experiment with vmware and see if i can get blokbox working properly on OS X. after trying some linux my next step will be to ditch vmware and move on to virtual box I've been hearing good things of this software.

it works fine for me in Firefox in Ubuntu. maybe that sound issue was only in the beta version of the game?

blokbox doesn't like Fedora's java. i get a wrong java message on 32 bit Fedora 10.. trying different distro....

*edit, of course i go through the trouble of installing it when i could have just tested it on the box sitting next to me... didn't work there either.

If Blockbox is the only game you play on there, then yes. They have quite a selection of other games too.

    Garbage string questions
Currently, Blockbox supports 6 different garbage systems which can be chosen using the multiplayer custom option.
The big question is, what would be the best system to use in a rated/tournament game.

Personally, I'm liking Caffeine's solution the most. To eliminate peeking, I can simply make it so that the gray garbage fields in your opponents screen does not show any garbage holes. Of course, when you are dead, or are watching a game, the garbage holes will be shown.

Of course, a combination of Caffeine, Jujube and Ezzelins suggestion is also doable.

The list of people with ideas:

Caffeine: "all players should receive the same string of garbage. For example, if Player A's first garbage row has a hole in column 2 and his next in column 6, so should player B's."

Jujube: "Same randomness but in different patterns. The garbage hole changes would be in sync but the holes would appear random columns. it would only allow for a small advantage from screen peeking, but one could argue the player who strikes first deserves that insight"

Ezzelin: "the column where garbage would appear would always be marked at the bottom of the well."

  10. Ah, that's a clever way to avoid peeking. I didn't think of that.

it does sound like a good idea Deniax. that way you could still check to see how close a player is to topping out without knowing where your own holes will be aligned if you're playing with identical garbage. is there an option for identical garbage already?

    yes. this idea is brilliant.

everyone gets the same garbage, but you can't see other people's garbage, therefore no stacking against it in advance. perfect.

The ONLY reason to look at it is screen peeking.

  13. Played against my friend using TGM-style garbage, which worked beautifully.
Great job on the game, Deniax, and I'm happily waiting for Doubles!

(test) Version 8.9.1-Build20090323-1771 has now been installed.

    Changes:

    - When watching a multiplayer game, you can now press on another player who's playing to change the main view
    - Soundpack support*
    - TPM won't be altered anymore when you don't finish a 40 lines or a multiplayer game.
    - Highscores now show the levels again
    - avg 4-lines now only is updated when 40 lines or a multiplayer game has been played.
    - Ability to enable&disable the ghost piece

These sounds are supported in the soundpack: (Put them in a zip file, rename the .zip to .jar Load up Blockbox, go to controls, expert options and load up the soundpack)
When adding own sounds, very important they must be 44.1 , stereo, 128kbs

  19. yay deniax, thanks for the custom sounds support, was wondering if it's possible for you to add the ability to make sounds for the following events:

entering a game room, rotating a piece, winning a game, losing a game, starting the game.

also, the ability to disable sounds from playing, such as: monster kill - because if i leave that file out of the soundpack, it plays it anyway from the default sounds. theres no way for it to not play, unless i add a blank file with same name? i can do that i guess.

oh also is there a way to customize the lobby sounds too? not just the ingame sounds.
