Does anyone know how to rip sprites from TGM and/or TGM2? Lookming to get my hands on the fonts, etc.
Wow, thanks! Do you also happen to have TGM1 sprites and TGM1 and TGM2 backgrounds? Some pixels are off by the way s3 on high scores looks a bit off
This is just how they were ripped, I'm sure you can touch up a few stray pixels here and there manually.
If you can wait a while, I can make a tool that dumps the graphics from the TGM2 ROMs. I'm not going to distribute the images.
By the way, is there any chance that there are the level backgrounds too? (ie the cubes at 0, the balls at 100, etc)
Not sure if these are directly ripped, but these are from TAP: https://imgur.com/a/OQ8b1 (You'll have to highlight the link and copy-paste it because the forum automatically formats it if I don't use plain text, and the formatting is very broken.)
Here's some instructions on how you can get the TGM1 graphics yourself: Get TIM Viewer. Extract the tgmj.zip MAME ROM set, and verify you have the "ate-06m.4h" file (you'll be extracting the graphics from that ROM). In TIM Viewer, go to File->Scan RAW File, then select the "ate-06m.4h" ROM file. Use TIM Viewer to extract the graphics you want. Use a conversion program to convert the TIM images to another format. XnView is a free option. I tried some other TIM extraction software, and only TIM Viewer seems to be able to get TGM1's backgrounds.
What kind of progress are you after? Nightmareci's guide already has all the tools you need to get what you want with steps even I can understand (and I'm usually terrible with software.) The tool itself is fine. Though if it BSoD's your PC, you might want to look into why it's doing that (by either looking up the error it spits out or by digging deeper and checking the log files to find exactly what's going wrong.)
Ah, I'm afraid I don't know enough about that to answer. Though another method you could go for if you have the time is to take MAME screenshots of any sprite you're after and pop them into your favourite image editing software for any purpose you wish.
Here's a guide on how to use the MAME graphics viewer. Protip: TAP's graphics are palette based, and for some graphics the palettes are loaded right when they're shown. Others, like block graphics, have the palettes kept loaded all the time, so you can view them any time while in-game. But, for momentary graphics (like the medal-awarded animation) you'll need to open the graphics viewer while the graphics are on-screen, so you can select the loaded palette while it's in memory. All the graphics are viewable in the graphics viewer at all times because they're in a single always-active ROM region, but many palettes are loaded per-screen; so, for example, a set of palettes are loaded for in-game graphics, while another set is loaded for the rankings. And you'll need to scroll down a lot before you'll start to see the graphics in the viewer, because for some reason TAP's graphics don't begin at the start of the tile address space.
