  1. Hi and welcome to the Tetrisconcept community! I hope you enjoy it here as much as everyone else is :D

To be honest, I've never even heard of that game before yet I tend to enjoy a lot of mission-based/more puzzle-heavy Tetris games and Tetris POP seems like a rather interesting game now that I've researched it a bit. Especially seeing as it pulls off some missions in ways I've never seen any other Tetris game would.

There is World Rule for TGM3 which is a lot more like the rotations you're used to in Tetris Friends, however that still doesn't solve the issue for TGM1 or TAP as those games are ARS only.

  2. Hello all.

John from Australia. Just got back into Tetris recently. I'm a pretty ordinary player, but I love competitive gaming of any type no matter how good the skill level is - it's about fun and improving your game.

    1. Why did you start playing Tetris? Can you also please specify how long you have been playing and if you consider yourself a great player? ^^

Played it pretty much casually since it first came out all those years ago, recently got back into it after watching all the CTWC vids on YouTube and also Ecstacy of Order - loved it.

    2. What Tetris games do you play and how much do you play?

Getting into NES at the moment, direct result of it being used for CTWC and also looking at running a competition here in Australia of a similar format - I'll get to that.

    3. What other games besides Tetris (if any ^^) keep you busy?

Play a lot of retro arcade games - current WR holder on Bump 'n' Jump Arcade and MAME. Preparing for the 2nd Aussie Kong Off at present, so trying to find time for some Donkey Kong.

    4. Any other block/puzzle games you enjoy?

Not too many, talking MAME / Arcade - Pipe Dreams is fantastic, but haven't touched that for a while.

    5. How did you find out about tetrisconcept?

Pointed in this direction by a couple of people over at Hard Drop forums who suggested I might be able to contact those responsible for the CTWC here.

  3. @Johnno73 Another Aussie! :D I'm a TGM player, but I love watching NES tetris. I haven't got into it myself yet because I would prefer to play on NTSC than PAL, but I'm having trouble finding an NTSC in Australia. Do you have any ideas on the easiest way to pick one up?

Also, I've watched some DK before, but not too much, is the Aussie Kong Off going to be streamed somewhere? Good luck with it! :) And good luck with organising an Australian type CTWC event, if it's somewhere near me I'd probably come and watch or even help out.

  4. Think the cheapest and easiest way is going to be to buy an NTSC NES from the USA, they'd be pretty cheap but postage will suck. Maybe find others like myself that would want one and go in on a group buy. Otherwise just buy several yourself and flip them when they arrive, you should get rid of them easily.

Local market I went to recently had 2nd hand PAL NES for $130 inc 2 controllers + power cables. Would have to see how that compares to buying in the US I guess. Ideally I/we would like to run the Tetris comp I have planned in NTSC if at all possible. Makes comparing apples with apples and also it has a bigger following and a lot bigger score list on sites like Twin Galaxies for those that submit.

Yeah Aussie Kong Off will be streamed, last years vids are still up for those who might be interested. The channel is twitch.tv/netherworldarcade. Aussie Kong Off 2 will be run the weekend of Nov 10-11, think streaming will start at about 10am which is EST not ADST as we living in the dark ages in Queensland during summer :) Bigger and better this year, 8 machines are planned and we will probably have 3 Million pt players and another 3-5 killscreen players on top of that qualifying.

  5. Hey @Johnno73 I am also another Aussie player, watched your performance at the CTAC good to see more Aussie talent coming up in the NES scene. Would also be willing to help out in anyway with getting more Aussie tetris going on. I think the only real way to get NES Tetris to really have any chance of growing in Australia is to have it at an event like Pax or IEM Sydney or similar would be interesting but unfortunately with such a large country and low population I don't see a high competitive scene coming anytime soon.
@xyrnq I got a ntsc modded to also play pal games from the states for about $50 USD just for a price reference for you but prices are always changing. Emulation is also pretty good for NES at this point

  6. I'm sad to say I'm a different Johnno from Brisbane. There is no way I could play anything like that :)

I am looking forward to seeing what Tetris talent can be found in Australia though. With my limited knowledge, there were some good players last night.

    1. Why did you start playing Tetris? Can you also please specify how long you have been playing and if you consider yourself a great player? ^^
People from gdq 2015 introduced me to tgm and made me thinking along lines "Oh, there's interesting tetris game out there that rewards speed and skillful play. Gotta try this!"

    2. What Tetris games do you play and how much do you play?

Pretty much only play tgm and it's clones. Sometimes playing more sometimes less.

    3. What other games besides Tetris (if any ^^) keep you busy?

Mainly I play games on pc and consoles. Some of my favourite games/franchises are: god hand, f-zero gx, SMT and ratchet and clank.
Currently hype levels are pointing to devil may cry 5.

    4. Any other block/puzzle games you enjoy?
    Not really
If someone considers ace attorney series some sort of puzzle game then that. Tried puyo puyo but those combos you have to do hurt my brain and rarely play NES tetris.

    5. How did you find out about tetrisconcept?
    Games done quick 2015 :V

Would be cool if there would be someone else playing tgm from Finland.

  11. 1. Why did you start playing Tetris? Can you also please specify how long you have been playing and if you consider yourself a great player?

My cousin gave me NES Tetris back in the early 90s, and I immediately fell in love. I stopped playing once I got a SNES a few years later, and forgot about it until my early 20s when I dug it out of a box and started playing again. I soon found myself playing several hours every night, and got to the point where I was hitting 500-600k with regularity. Several years later, life got in the way (marriage, moves, kids) and I wasn't able to play as much as I would like. I ended up giving my console away to a friend, and haven't played in about eight years.

The CTWC got me interested again, so I bought a NES console (arriving later this week) and plan on dusting off my skills and getting back into the game. I'd love to be able to play in some qualifying contests, but I have a lot of practice to do before I can get back to that level and not embarrass myself. Assuming I can carve out the time and get back to the level I was at nearly 10 years ago, I would consider myself a good, not quite great, player.

    2. What Tetris games do you play and how much do you play?

I only play NES Tetris, and once I get my new setup I plan to play at least an hour or more every day.

    3. What other games besides Tetris keep you busy?

Threes and 1010 on iOS. I don't have any other consoles. My son has a Switch, but he never lets me play it.

    4. Any other block/puzzle games you enjoy?

    The aforementioned 1010.

    5. How did you find out about tetrisconcept?

Saw it mentioned a few times on the Hard Drop forums and r/tetris

  12. 1. I started playing Tetris when I was probably 3 years old, because my mother had it on GameBoy, and it quickly became a family tradition over various versions and platforms. I play it these days because it's a wonderful way for me to spend time in hyperfocus, honing specific skills.

    2. I primarily play TGM1, though also speedrun 40-line in Tetris DX for GameBoy Color. I enjoy Tengen Tetris on NES, and occasionally break out Spectrum Holobyte Tetris and Super Tetris.

    3. I've always been into RPGs, and play them regularly. Occasionally platformers and kart racers, as well as some party games.

    4. Not really!

  13. 1. My earliest memory of Tetris was playing it on an airplane a few years ago. It was one of the games you could play on the in-flight display. I remember being really good at fitting the pieces nicely and thinking “if these controls were better I could do a lot better at this.” I played various modes on nullpomino since then, but I’ve been seriously playing competitive Tetris since Puyo Puyo Tetris came out on the switch. At around the same time I got to be number one in my state, I got the PPT for the PC. I almost got to top 50 in the world on the PC before I took a break for personal reasons. Ever since then I’ve been practicing TGM3 on my PC for my trip to Japan in December where I’ll play on an actual machine.

    2. I play PPT (PC)/Tetris friends but not so much anymore, considering going back to it though. I play TGM3 as well, whenever I have time. Sometimes I do 40L sprint on jstris but I’m surprisingly bad at sprint haha

    3. Dota 2, also looking to improve there.

    4. No not really.

    5. Saw it when looking up resources for TGM3

  14. Why did I start playing?
I used to think that Tetris was a boring game until I saw Tetris: The Grand Master gameplay on AGDQ/SGDQ livestreams. I found NullpoMino to play TGM modes, and I instantly got hooked. I started playing Tetris seriously near the beginning of April 2017. I'd say that I'm a great player, but I know that I'm certainly not the best.

What Tetris games do I play?
I mainly play TGM modes through clones since I am unable to emulate or own actual hardware. Until recently, my clone of choice was NullpoMino, but now it's Shiromino since it actually works on my new laptop. I played Tetris Friends until I reached rank 20 in all "multiplayer" modes (spent hours each day toward the end), but I normally spend no more than an hour each day playing Tetris.

What other games keep me busy?
I absolutely love to play Minecraft, PlatinumQuest, and Minion Rush. Yes, the last one may seem strange, but I love it.

    Any other block/puzzle games?
Minecraft is the block game that I have played the longest with this being my eighth year. I'm not really a fan of puzzle games per se, but Tetris is awesome.

How did I find out about TC?
I heard about TGM4 and did some research on it and stumbled across this site. I doubt TGM4 will be released, but I hope it does.

  16. Hi everyone.

My name is Ben and I'm from Canada.

    1. Why did you start playing Tetris? Can you also please specify how long you have been playing and if you consider yourself a great player? ^^
I played Tetris DS for a few dozen hours when I was a kid/early teen (and I had a few hours in Tetris for GB, NES, and Tengen Tetris on NES). Earlier this year I saw the "Finals - 2016 Classic Tetris World Championship" video because it kept being suggested by Youtube. After watching that and the "Boom! Tetris for Jeff" compilation video, I watched a few dozen other videos from the Classic Tetris channel and decided to give NES Tetris a shot again. I recently played it for about 2 hours on Level 6 and have a highscore of a measly 107k. My current goals are 200k and 250k.

    2. What Tetris games do you play and how much do you play?
I only play NES Tetris, Puyo Puyo Tetris, and Tetris Effect nowadays. I play them every 2 days or so, since I'm also into many other games on PC and N64.

    3. What other games besides Tetris (if any ^^) keep you busy?
Quite a lot, and it's a balance between retro and modern. The games I've been playing lately are Clone Hero (PC), Guitar Hero 3 PC (Custom songs), The Forest (PC), Payday 2 (PC), Borderlands 2 (PC), SUPERHOT VR (PC), Goldeneye 007 (N64), Perfect Dark (N64), and Hatsune Miku Project Diva Future Tone DX (PS4). I speedrun Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark (full games and individual levels) and I also try to get as many achievements as possible for the games I have on Steam.

    4. Any other block/puzzle games you enjoy?
Dr. Mario on N64, I've been very good at it since I was a kid.

    5. How did you find out about tetrisconcept?
I was streaming some games on Twitch with my friends and we were playing NES Tetris. Raul showed up in chat and left some nice links, including a link to here.

My goals for NES Tetris are to get a new PB every month for as long as I can, and to reach 200k and 250k between now and the end of 2019.

  17. Hello everyone!
I'm Tigeneer (TIG/CIN/NEE), from Texas, USA!

    1. Why did you start playing Tetris? Can you also please specify how long you have been playing and if you consider yourself a great player? ^^
Well, I've played Tetris since I could ever remember, but I haven't really got into it until just 4 months ago (>July 2018<). After playing a few games of Puyo Puyo tetris, eventually completing marathon mode for the first time, I started to want a bigger challenge, so I kept improving myself more and more until I could beat marathon consistently. At that point, I still felt like I could take this even further, so I did some research about different ways I could improve my Tetris skill, and I come across videos of the TGM series. Inspired by the delicious speeds and difficulty of all three games, I learn shortly after that one of my local arcades actually has TGM3, so that's where I started practicing that game! Since the four months I've been practicing, I've been able to reach the grade m4, with an instant "Pass" completed exam of S9 for World Rule, and plan to challenge the other m9 player who frequents the same cabinet. I also currently hold the fastest record for that cabinet on the Shirase side at 3:43:05, where I plan to soon break the torikan! (My initials as of today for that cabinet in Arcade UFO are TIG, CIN, and NEE)

    2. What Tetris games do you play and how much do you play?
Currently, I switch between Tetris Effect, Puyo Puyo Tetris, NES Tetris, Gameboy Tetris, Nullpomino, and Tetris Friends, including TGM3 from the arcade. I mostly stick to TGM3 though as I plan to become a Grand Master one day ;) .. I currently play almost whenever I have the time or down time. Basically, I wake up, play Tetris, eat food, play Tetris before I leave to work, think about Tetris as I work, visit the arcade after work to play Tetris, come home and practice on another version of Tetris, sleep and dream about Tetris. LOL.

    3. What other games besides Tetris (if any ^^) keep you busy?
I also like to play a variety of other games from classic to modern, such as playing Sinistar at another arcade and playing Overwatch at home. I mostly play everything, and love to see new video games that release as time goes on.

    4. Any other block/puzzle games you enjoy?
It's rare, but sometimes I touch a little on Puyo Puyo just to get some variety of puzzle games in my brain.

    5. How did you find out about tetrisconcept?
Sometimes this forum pops up whenever I'm doing some research about tetris mechanics and records. I was also forwarded from tetrisdonequick(dot)com, which was a nice surprise :)

  18. Hello and welcome to the forum! It seems you found out about it the same way I did :V

Good luck on the road to GM by the way! It's a path that will certainly have it's ups and downs yet it's also a path few people have reached the summit on. So attaining such would be quite the achievement. :)
Also, next time you head down to UFO, feel free to take some pics of your PBs and post them to our various leaderboards!

    Hi everyone!
My name is David, but people call me Dave, or better yet - my nickname, DLo!

    1. I started playing Tetris the year it came out for NES way back in 1989! I consider myself a fairly good player. I was a finalist in not only the 1990, but also the 1994 Nintendo World Championships, currently only 1 of 2 players (Mike Iarossi the other) to ever make finals in both competitions. I continued playing Tetris and other games from then until about 1999, at which time I had to deal with some family issues, and then life took it's course and I completely stopped playing... But now I'm BACK and more thrilled than ever!

    2. Since getting back into the video game scene, I currently only play the NES classic version. I am currently playing 1-3 hours/day, and one time pulled a 12-hour straight session, which fried my brain! My all-time PB is 825,000 when I was young, however, since picking up the game again this past year (mid-summer) my current PB on record is 613,400 a/o 11/26/18 (156 lines into level 21).

    3. For now, since Tetris was always my favorite, it's all I mainly play, aside from a little Tetris EA on mobile.
    4. I love any games that challenge the mind, "Unblock Me" & "Dr. Mario" to name a few!

    5. I found out about Tetrisconcept via a Tetris & Facebook friend, Vince Clemente and a link posted on one of his threads by Alex Kerr.

My current Tetris goals are to get to the level I was at when I was young and max out, and to make at least a final 16 appearance in the CTWC!
