"Windows XP" Desktop Themes v1.0 for Windows 9x

  1. What the heck does this have to do with Tetris(!), you ask <G>?

About a month and a half ago I got severely sidetracked while creating a new skin for LockJaw (which is currently in stasis right now, pending a future version of LockJaw), that will be based upon the wallpaper image of the "Weeds Windows XP Desktop Themes" (see below) included in this pack. The original image that I used for the skin (as well as the afore-mentioned wallpaper image) was the start of this whole schmear... after learning more about the "clone brush" tool in Paint Shop Pro from Mufunyo.

Anyways, dunno who may still be running Windows 9x, or may have Microsoft Plus! 9x installed, but here is a nice set of desktop themes for ya.

    Directly from the included readme:

Over a month in the making, introducing the "Windows XP" Desktop Themes v1.0 for your Windows desktop enjoyment!

The files contained in this installation consist of several "Microsoft Plus! Pack" desktop themes and "Active" desktop themes for Windows 9x (or higher). Several themes are included in the installation, and are all based on graphics and sounds from Windows XP.

The themes include new 3D stereo sounds, color schemes, cursors, Explorer toolbar menu and "Web View" graphics, icons, screensavers, startup and shutdown screens, and wallpaper backgrounds.

Anyhow, download and unzip, and then read the included Readme.txt file for complete installation instructions. Hope ya like the desktop themes (as well as the future release of my "WinDoze XP Skin Pack" for LockJaw... gonna have some really snazzy looking block images, and some funky music from the Windows XP Media Player "tour") [IMG]

  3. Hey, that looks pretty cool, thanks for the link [IMG] Hehe although, mine is simply a meager desktop theme... don't think I'm brave enough to install the pack/upgrade at afore-mentioned link <G>.

BTW, whaddya think of my "clone brushing" with that Windows XP wallpaper (the original was WinXP.jpg on the WXP CD <IIRC>)? [IMG]

I take it you clonebrushed the "Windows XP" text out from the bottom right of Weeds Windows XP.bmp? I wouldn't be able to tell it was there (other than knowing it normally is).

  5. Yep, that's right.

Many thanks [IMG] Hehe, my work is done... removing as many traces of "Microsoft" as possible <G> [IMG]

You're welcome [IMG] Btw, installing Revolutions Pack isn't as daunting as one might think. It's actually quite easy, just an installation wizard and you're done. Here's a screenshot of how I got my (now dead) old 98se laptop all revamped into something that looks like Windows Vista:

That did take a bit of work, I had to modify my TrueType fonts (to get that nice font smoothing), and make my own Vista theme. RP7 ships with all the standard XP themes; Luna, Homestead and Silver, though, so those wouldn't take any effort.

  7. Thanks for the info, I might give that pack a shot after all. Judging by your screenshot, it looks quite snazzy [IMG]
