TGM questions as a newbie.

  1. Hello, new to the TGM stuff here. Here’s some questions I wanted you experts to answer:
Q1: Do emulated TGM and TAP runs count as legit attempts? (Broke to buy the PCBs)
Q2: Do attempts from that TI version off archive.org count as legit?
Q3: Other than theabsolute.plus, are there any relevant online TGM leaderboards out there?
Q4: Are Carnivals the best introduction to the series?
That’s it for the questions, I hope I’ll get support from all of you <3.

  2. Hi, welcome! For better or worse, the TGM community is much more active on discord these days, most notably the discord for theabsolute.plus (https://discord.gg/6Gf2awJ), its pretty slow around here.

    As for your questions:
    1. Yes, as long as the game is running at intended speed. Though, if possible, buying the Arcade Archive ports of TGM and TAP for Switch or PS4 is also a great option, and supports the series.

    2. TI is a bit more of a complicated situation. The theabsolute.plus leaderboards sort of work off a don't ask don't tell premise, as long as the game seems to be running correctly. I'd maybe recommend asking more about this one in the discord.

    3. theabsolute.plus is the main community leaderboard. I think there's some boards on retroachievements and speedrun.com, but no one really uses them.

    4. Carnivals are a good way to get into the community, though for starting out with the series/learning TGM rotations, I personally always recommend playing TGM1 to GM. There are a pretty wide range of opinions on this though, and ultimately you should play whatever you find fun!

  3. Thanks a lot for the information! To be fair, I have quite an amount of experience in Guideline Tetris (Around 6+ years), so it’s nice to have something new to spice things up. After the exams, I’m setting a goal to hit TI GM this year, regardless of World or Classic. Yes, a bit ambitious, but with a little bit of research and a lot of practise, I think I could make it to the list.
