played this at a friends house and they were playing with the wiimote. There's got to be another way to play this right? They beat me. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah Stupid nintendo-ized Tetris. I'll get them, I need something normal to play with. The wiimote is as subtle as a brick. Sorry if this has been handled already, which it might.
When I play Tetris Party, Dr. Mario Online Rx, and VisualBoyAdvance GX[1], I use a Classic Controller. They also work with any controller that speaks Classic Controller protocol, such as Hori's Fighting Stick Wii. Or by "normal" did you mean "USB keyboard"? [1] VBA GX is the homebrew environment to run Lockjaw.
I don't have that much problem using the Wiimote. I never use the one version of the Wiimote where you point it at the screen and aim it to move the pieces. I would say that is the most difficult. Since it uses the D-Pad I presume you can use the Wii Fighting Stick with the game, but I haven't been able to get ahold of my brother's Wii Fighting Stick to test it. Even if it could be used I feel that the Fighting Stick is probably more annoying to use than the Wiimote. The Classical Controller should probably work as well, but I haven't been able to play with that easier. I honestly feel that holding the Wiimote sideways and using the D-pad and 1 and 2 is the easiest way, but it depends on what you are use to. You should try using the others options listed though if you don't like the Wiimote. Can anyone confirm that the other things work and has used another option in Tetris Party and can say how it feels in comparison to the Wiimote. Edit: Posted right after Tepples posted. So I guess all of them do work. That is good. I doubt the Hori Stick feels that good though, even to people who are use to using stick. I really dislike the Hori Stick but maybe that is just me.
I played Tetris Party with a Fighting Stick Wii, which is infinitely better than playing with the Wiimote. You can also play with the classic controller.
I originally played it with the classic controller, but I switched to the Wiimote. I kept having problems with pieces swerving when I tried to soft drop with the classic controller, because the D-pad is too big to quickly get your thumb to the edge of the button and be sure not to accidentally hit it diagonally, but I find the smaller D-pad on the Wiimote more reliable (or maybe I'm just more used to the small D-pad on the DS). Also, I switched the hold button on the Wiimote to be the B trigger instead of the A button, so it's more like the traditional shoulder button, and surprisingly it's actually more comfortable than using a shoulder button because it's right under the D-pad so you're pushing your index finger more naturally towards your thumb and don't get the hand strain that you can with a shoulder button.
OK, thanks they told it didn't work with the classic controller and we tried wavebird, but that didn't work. OK, classic controller; It's ooooon!
Tetris in Tetris & Dr. Mario has the same "problem", allowing diagonal soft drops. I think their presence in Tetris Party has something to do with consistency with Stage Racer. It's the latter. I play the PC version of Lockjaw with an authentic Nintendo 64 controller most of the time (see photo: N64 controller and USB adapter). But the DS Lite's Control Pad is touchier, a lot easier to press diagonally than that of an N64 controller or an original DS, and I had to change my muscle memory when I switched from Tetris DS on an original DS to Tetris DS on a DS Lite.
The classic controller did wonders! I gift-rapped and handed them their own behinds. Still I don't consider this a very good version of Tetris though. What's up with 2 of the same items coming after oneanother?
The pieces come in bags of all 7 placed in random order, so if a specific piece happens to be placed as the last piece in one bag and the first piece in the next bag you get 2 back to back. Just be thankful you don't get the same piece 5 or 6 times in a row -- happens frequently in older games like Tengen Tetris where each piece is totally random, so there's nothing stopping you from getting the same piece over and over again or waiting till your death for an I that never comes.
Didn't he say "item?" I think he's talking about the distribution of items in multiplayer, not the distribution of pieces.
Oh, so used to everyone complaining about getting the same piece that I wasn't even thinking of the multiplayer items. Other than Tetris DS, are there any other versions of Tetris that have items?
Yeah, there are others. Notably, Tetris Grand Master series games have items, and I'm pretty sure that it uses a bag to deal them out, much like the 7 bag piece randomizer in guideline games. In fact, I think it might be impossible to get two of the same item in a row. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong on any of this; I'm pulling details -- as best as I can remember them -- from a conversation regarding Item Mode/Versus Items I saw going on in #arika a long time ago.)
Bloxeed has items, and the Bloxeed-inspired games DuelTris and TGM have similar items, as I understand it.
