tetrisconcept.com distributed computing team

Thread in 'Discussion' started by colour_thief, 16 Nov 2008.

  1. Just wondering if anyone else would be interested in starting a tetrisconcept team for distributed computing. I've been using my new PC to crunch away at the Sierpinski problem. I was attracted to this project because it has a theoretical end and also, being a mathematical problem, it will actually give results. Plus it being a geeky computing project and us being a geeky tetris website, it might work as advertising. [IMG]

    So yeah if others want to join me they can find the client on their website:

    I'm not on a team yet, but if others want to join me then I'll start. You just have to add "tetrisconcept.com" to the team name section of the client.

    <EDIT>

    (SB 2.5.0 for Windows) You've entered an invalid team name. Please check to make sure that it is alphanumeric.

    Should we leave off the .com?

  3. That's strange, because other teams certainly have it. Oh well, 'tetrisconcept' it is then.

    i would totally help you if i understood what you where talking about.

    I've donated cycles to folding@home in the past. In practice my system has a passive CPU fan and only comes on when the CPU runs hot. And folding runs the CPU hot. And the fan isn't exactly silent.

    On the other hand, I could let my CPU passively keep my apartment warm. Maybe I'll try it over the winter.

    so...sorry i'm a noob.

    am i just to run the program, or like ...play tetris DURING the program, or just let it do ti's thing in the background?

    Just let it run. It'll run during unused CPU cycles, such as any cycles that your web browser or fan game isn't using.

  8. Haha, ok I just figured out how to create a team, and we are in fact tetrisconcept.com! [IMG]

    To join this team you have to use the website, not the program. Go here:

    http://www.seventeenorbust.com/

    Click 'log in'.
    Click 'preferences'.
    Select 'tetrisconcept.com' from the drop down box.

    <EDIT>
    Ok, I've added explicit noob instructions to the first post. Everyone should be able to figure it out now.

  9. I got it running yesterday. TC were 35th yesterday and are 379th overall, just on the back of c_t and myself for part of the day...

  10. Thanks for joining Rosti. We seem to be doing well so far with just the 2 of us. Come on you slackers! I know some of you have monster PCs you leave on 24/7. DIGITAL, I'm looking at you! [IMG]

  13. What exactly am I donating my PC's power to again? What's so special about 17? They really should have a calender date/time scheduler, but we'll see how this goes.

    yeah, i wish they had a scheduler. i blue screened twice so far trying to play counter strike. the idling decision making is a little slow. now i just turn it on when i go to sleep.

    and my computer is not that bad.

  15. If you have multiple processors you can just set it's affinity to one processor and have pretty much everything else run on the other one.

  16. Oh cool, have you figured out how to use multiple cores Rosti? I tried that and then stupidly the program was testing the same thing, in duplicate, on both cores. I haven't tinkered with it since then.
