Mine has toned down tremendously since I played less. Not to say it was heavy to begin with.. I just had a fancy for L's and J's twisting in funny ways. Also, it used to be one of those visualizations whereby you stack perfectly, and get all the pieces you want
I did when I first started playing Zoop (saw the shapes in Hamburger Helper), DDR (saw arrows), Katamari, and Animal Crossing (oh! a fruit tree! shake it!).
I never dreamed about it, but I did see falling blocks for a while. It's actually got less prominent as I've played more. Then again, if I play DDR for a while, I'll see arrows scrolling upwards when I close my eyes, and I used to also see bullet patterns after I went through a long spell of playing Perfect Cherry Blossom and DoDonPachi. Generally, my experience of the Tetris effect is daydreaming. Sometimes when I'm bored, and other times when people are talking to me and I'm not quite listening. Without consciously trying to do so, I'll start playing Tetris in my head. I don't have the memory for a 10-block well, so I end up playing in one 4 blocks across. Which means that as I won't usually start with a number of pieces in the well that is a denomination of 4, I'll usually never actually be able to clear all of the pieces completely.
seems like a long, long time ago. i remember getting it, just not exactly when. Likely back in the gameboy days. although, i'll occasionally play in my head when trying to go to sleep after a hard day of training. that happened last monday night.
Just like caffeine, it don't get it anymore. It seems with experience the effect disappears? One exception: When I got Ti I binged so much on it that I actually got the effect again for the first time in years.
The amount of energy your brain spends processing each piece decreases with experience, so I'd guess the amount of daydreaming decreases with experience in the same way.
exactly what i was gonna say, almost word for word...i don't feel so abnormal anymore...just a little...freaked out
I get the Tetris effect rather powerfully in many things I do. Generally it is fairly frustrating; I get worst-case scenario stacks for Tetris and I imagine different possibly spins and moves that could fill up gaps. Oftentimes, the well is greater than 10 columns wide. The Tetris effect was particularly nasty when I was practicing Secret Grade. Now that I've been playing Qix, I imagine messes of boxes and shapes intended to corner the Qix and get a >90% capture. I've also been imagining a theoretical area capture game in the vein of Qix that allows more freedom allowed in movement. I can't seem to recall a time when -- and if -- I've had the Tetris effect with a music game, but I can safely say it has happened with bullet hell patterns.
Well speak of the devil. I played a fair bit yesterday... Nothing obscene like my initial Ti binge, but more than usual. And I got this effect again. Not strong enough to see it everytime I close my eyes no matter what I'm doing (which did happen with my Ti binge), but I saw pieces falling as I went to sleep last night, and still saw them this morning lying in bed as well.
i've been playing the hell out of Valve's new Portal--and this morning i've got tetris effect. in other news, go play portal.
I actually got FPS-lag when I finished Portal and moved on to Episode II. Gordon Freeman is so susceptible to fall damage! Oh and I want a weighted companion cube plush toy.
