So my Ti didn't want to boot today... (arcade BIOS)

  1. I've had my data reset a few times, but that's not a big deal to me because even if the game forgets how I play, I certainly remember how to play. [IMG] It's pretty easy to re-establish and soon beat previous records. Today was different though. DeHackEd and I were about to play... I turned it on... and the fan started wailing like usual... and then... nothing happened.

So I calmly removed Ti from the arcade machine and hooked it up to a computer monitor. Lo and behold, it wasn't seriously broken after all:

"RTC battery low or battery had been removed."

    "Press F1 key to continue"

All I've got to do is replace the battery, and in the meantime I can boot the game up by plugging in a keyboard and pressing F1. [IMG] This is actually the only time I've seen the game respond to a keyboard.

  2. I got scared that your Ti had broked... But it wasn't anything serious. YES! ^^!

  3. Man, I'd be seriously pissed if I spent that much on something like Ti and it broke. Especially if there wasn't a whole lot you could do to get it fixed.

Glad to hear it's still working.

In The Groove and Pump It Up Pro machines look like a PC when they boot up too, and I've seen all the BIOSy POSTiness on the monitor when employees at Putt-Putt in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA, have restarted the machines. I think ITG up to ITG2 R21 ran Linux, while I've seen the ITG2 R23 at Putt-Putt crash into what looks like Windows. And I'm pretty sure it's an ArcadeVGA card, as those were popular with MAME and StepMania cabinet builders around the time the first ITG was coming out.

  5. CT: How much did everything related to your Ti cost? The machine, cabinet, shipping costs etc... in other words, how much money have you spent on your Ti? I'm seriously considering a Ti for a reatively near future (like, within maybe 0,5-2 years). Maybe. [IMG]

Also it's really hard to give an answer on this because it's hard to decide what should be included. To guesstimate without looking at old bills, I'd say between $2000 and $2500. I've played over 2000 games already though, and I've only had it a year. And you can probably add another 1000 games played by friends. So it's already worked out pretty cheap on a per play basis, and will only work out cheaper as time passes.

  7. Canadian dollars right? [IMG] I'm thinking about maybe trying to get the whole shebang with the Astro City, Ti etc etc, in the future if I find a job, I hope within a year.. And then place it on japanese and video game conventions here in Sweden to get some or all (in the end) of the money back. ......buuut... my interest for Tetris and TGM has just entered my life, I may be long since tired of Tetris when the day that I can afford a TGM arcade arrives. =P

But I know some Swedes who'd be happy if I got one (and placed it on those conventions). And making people happy is awesome. ^^

    You scared me there colour_thief!

Didn't you get a guarantee just in case something happens? Or is it already over a year? I would presume sending the whole thing back to Japan isn't really easy either.

Canadion dollar and US dollar are basically worth the same at the moment. But a year ago in Canadian dollar would be cheaper.

At first I thought I was bound to find someone with a Ti somewhere in Belgium. But as of now I didn't find anything. I bet there are people in the French speaking part of the country who have one though.

By the time I would be able to buy one TGM 4 "Hell's Ride" will be available. ^^

  9. I would work under the assumption that anyone owning a TGM arcade machine in the west is either going to be part of this community, or that we'd at least know about it (I know there's a few known arcade machines around somewhere owned by people not at TC).

They should put TGM machines at Trocadero's in London, I bet there'd be tons of people playing it there.

  11. It's my favourite BIOS of all time. Award Bios! However Phoenix bought it, it still looks awesome.

What the hell was that good for? The subject was fine as it was.

  13. I always thought that would have worked, too. Or they should at least get a TGM game in Casino. Its such a missed opportunity.

they (ITG1/2 and PIU Pro) do run on Linux (because using windows would require a license... see also: OGG instead of MP3).

and it basically does boil down to it being StepMania on an arcade cabinet.

  15. I am equally confused.

Yeah you're probably right. I'll just have to move to Japan or buy one if I really want it! ^^

Btw coulour_thief I'd really appreciate it if you could make a video of one of your TAP Normal mode runs.

    EDIT:

Oh wait it's not necessary I found a video from Amnesia with a really good run (score 406.412) in the TAP normal mode thread. -_-'

    Invalid pointer error.

  18. Thanks! It worked fine after a reboot, so I guess it's no big deal.

When this happened I was playing with the stick and buttons as it was loading, which I don't usually do. I wonder if it's related. Or maybe it was cosmic rays? Who knows.

  19. Could be that the stick sends inputs which are interpreted as instructions while the machine is booting and tell it to do things it's not quite ready to do.
