page 5 this is a gem

    page 6 gem #2

though i'm sarcastic about it, the tips are actually still quite valid for all versions. i had a good laugh at the picture of the 'resident tetris master,' howard phillips, shown next to his high score of 71, with 0 lines, on the insanely fast level 08. also notice his strategically-built stack.

  2. wow. that's awesome. you still have a nintendo power from 1989. great post.

jeeze thats so awsome, whats even better is all those tips can be applied to tetris now-a-days

"Don't center the pile" on page 2 doesn't seem to matter anymore, especially now that lock delay and >1G practically force the player to build a pyramid.

Page 5 example 2, which advocates using L to make a triple instead of setting up a home run even at level 3, will break your back-to-back bonus in a newer game.

Page 6 example 4 is different in games that use different rotation systems (2-position left bias like Game Boy Tetris, 2-position right bias like NES Tetris, 2-position mixed bias like TGM, or 4-position like Bombliss or SRS based games).

  5. I've got Jeff Rovin's guide to NES/GB Tetris around somewhere. It's all text and paperback so it wouldn't make for a good scan. It's sort of amusing to read how primitive the tips are though.
