I've been playing Pac-Man Championship Edition, available on Xbox Live Arcade, for a while, and thought the game was worth a mention on this forum although it's not Tetris-related. While a whole lot of people were let down when they heard Microsoft's "big announcement" was merely yet another Pac-Man, the game is actually a very well-made game: fast, hectic and intense. It's pretty awesome to think that this modern version came from the original developer of Pac-Man, Toru Iwatani himself. Proves he's not a one-hit wonder. Pac-Man C.E. is still Pac-Man, but it's like what TGM is to Tetris: fine-tuned to allow smooth and seamless gameplay at high speeds. The gaps between levels have been replaced by a dynamic map that constantly rewrites itself, and you can even use initial input for right turns to pick up speed. Instead of going on forever, the game runs against a timer set to either 5 or 10 minutes, and the objective is first to survive, and second to gather as much points as possible. As the game picks up speed quickly, you need to plan courses and execute actions in split seconds. It soon puts you into that zenlike state combined with the pulsing neon graphics and beat-heavy music (sorta like Rez). I definitely recommend it to anyone who's into high speed gameplay and owns an Xbox 360.
Hm, Pac-Man C.E. is similar to TGM in that it has a fast forced speed, but I don't know of a Pac-Man variant with free speed (no lower or upper speed limit). Could be interesting to experiment with. Turn-based with time limits maybe?
i can beat that monkey in pacman anywhere, anytime. Rosti are you saying TDS is too easy? maybe marathon is
Pac-Man without the ghosts would require little skill. Just a test of how long you can be bothered playing before you quit. Sounds exactly like TDS endless marathon if you ask me.
