i will put this at second on my tetris "to do" list (right after maxing, and right before "700k transition"). my current record is 68 lines w/o burning so- 17 terises?

David when you learn how to play Tetris the "correct" way maybe you'll get 21 Tetrises in a row.. lol j/k... well played!

The whole left right thing is debatable. ...i mean yeah its a little quicker moving a piece to the right, but if someone is more efficient with other maneuvers, then the management of time and space evens out.....

It's not debatable, it's a fact that it's easier to play to the right. There is an extra space to cover going left. You may be better at playing left, but that's just because that's what you've trained yourself to do. You can train yourself to play the other way just as you've done to gtrain yourself to play left. As Ben said, it's sort of like Mike Tyson boxing with one hand behind his back. You'd be better if you took the time to play the other way, it's a fact.

A simple comparison would when I would not learn to use the B button. I would say I was already very good and could triple flip on the highest levels. Just because I could succeed without the B button, doesn't meam that it's debatable that it's more efficient, it's simply a fact, it takes more time. A lot of times I could get away with it, but there are plenty of times it would also kill me. Once I took the time to learn to use it, I neber went back to triple flipping.

I understand that's how you trained yourself and it's tough to forgo higher scoring to try and learn something new, but it's a fact that welling to the right is better that welling to the left and you would play much more consistent if taken the time to get it down.

It's a fact that there is an extra space to the left, hence everything is more difficult. Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it's the same in difficulty.

Subjective preference does not change objective fact. Preferring a suboptimal method doesn't do anything to make it better or even equal -- just better for you personally due to familiarity and comfort. There is always room for differing styles and preferences to develop, but that doesn't change the concrete properties of the game.

David & Danny .... change your plans, close out your open action items, do whatever you have to do but come up to the CTWC this year. I'm highly confident this year will be the best year ever. The more talent that's there - the higher the competition bar will be raised. And 22 in a row is FILTHY! keep it up bro.

CTWC 14' is shaping up to be the most competitive tetris tournament ever and we are both bummed that we can't make it this year...i accepted a job months ago without Checking dates that I can't back out of...
not only gonna miss the competition, but the tetris community has a bunch of cool cats to hang out with ..good luck jake...top ten is in your reach.!..and terry..i think u can make your first final....hopefully there's a live feed so we can watch on sunday???

To stir up the hornet's nest again, I would like to point this out: if right-side welling is superior to left-side welling because the right well is closer, then center welling is the superior to either of the side welling, because it is 4-5 spaces closer than either of those.

David is better at left welling and prefers to play that way. I am better at right welling than center welling, so I prefer to stick to the right. I KNOW that center is better, I just can't commit to improving myself.

P.S. -Sad to hear you won't be able to make it this year, David. I almost (it was so close!) wasn't going to come, but figured things out yesterday, and now my flight is booked.

 

Direction switching has no effect on mobility. But yes, the issue with a center well is the constraints of two separate narrow stack surfaces to manage. Issues with stability of the half stacks can be mitigated with skimming, but it's more challenging to play clean on both sides otherwise.

One interesting aspect is that it allows you to stack far higher on the right-hand stack than on the left. In effect, it may allow for more pieces to be placed while stalling for an I-piece during a drought. This would be offset somewhat by any skimming used to stabilize the surfaces, but it could prove effective if extra line clears were kept to a minimum.

 

Sorry to hear you won't be there David. I was looking forward to witnessing some left-well-ing madness.
