After four potential M games missed on TAP master mode only because my heart is going to explode in my chest each time I feel all conditions are there to get the M-roll, I thought I would start this topic: How on earth do you manage to keep calm at the end of the game ? Any secret technics ? Booze ? Yoga ? Chi kung ? Anything else ?
You have to focus so hard on playing well that you don't have time to think about how close you are to a record. Don't waste time looking at the clock... Maybe just the level if you are approaching a level stop. Don't think too much about the M requirements or the 8:45 cutoff. If you have to, assume in your head you messed up the 2 second rule and are just keeping on playing for the practice. As you reach 999 often, you'll habituate and it won't be a big deal. Think that you should be playing better than you have been, until you honestly believe it. By which I mean, raise your personal standards. Shift your perspective from "good" and "excellent" (M-potential) to "mediocre" and "good" (M-potential).
Simple. I know that if I get too excited or flustered, I WILL unconditionally fail. And it will look really bad in the AVI I publish. So don't do that.
A detail I noticed, I think it is a quality and an advantage for some people to reach a better level of concentration.. "A long time ago", when jago was struggling around DEATH 800...900...He told me that during the game he was unable to know in which section he was..His eyes was so focused on the field that he was unable to see the background..NoTGhost has the same ability.. In the extrem opposite side, me, I use to check my chrono at every sections, I even take the time to think about my speed regulation to fix the delay if I am too late.. In G4, I count the number of tetrises I perform on every sections to check which COOL I validated.. At a several period I was even trying to check during the game, If I was well under 1:05 for TAP MASTER.. Example : hmm..58 on the first one..And 200 at 2:03...58+58=1:56 So 2:03 - 1:56 = 7sec...58 + 7 = 1:05...Damn... So imagine during the game..Or another one : "ok, DEATH 400 at 2:49..Hmm let's go for a little bit of manual locking and that should pass.." When I am in bad conditions, I give up, and when I am doing very well, I stress.. Recently, I noticed a huge improvement thank to the keyboard, I don't play for breaking any record any more, impossible to time attack without a joystick for me..I earned a big benefit of concentration..I can sometimes play as fast and well as I used to play with the stick but with a better concentration and less stress.. I felt 3 days ago the ultimate concentration in being totaly unable to see the background with a DOOM 860 on SRS.. To conclude, it is a story of psychology mainly..And practice to get used to the proximity with a torikan. hors sujet : When I will stop to hate my opponents, I will quietly blitz them..
When I play, I focus only on performing my very best at this very moment to achieve the goal at hand. I also clear out all thoughts and inner monologue from my head.
caffeine you are a particular case, you mostly play on short lenght games, 40 lines. In 30-35 sec, it is easier to give the max in stopping to breath, but when you are doing an endurant game of 9-10min, the stability of the concentration is a critical parameter.
Once you achieve a certain level consistently you are bound to get "lucky" at some point. And afterwards it will be easier to achieve the same goal with less stress. I learned to focus entirely on the playfield and the game to perform better. The more I try to think about stuff around the game, the more excited I get and the worse I perform. Just keep trying!
Its the same with me. Also, once a goal has been reached a few times the stress seems to go away in future games..
this is true for me too. also i find if i play a game enough i get less nervous through experience, without actually reaching a goal. i know some people would recommend against this, but i think it helps to sit down and binge on a game for a while. i'm talking 6+ hours on a day when you have nothing to do. you might not see any improvement during that session, but the next day you'll be more comfortable with things like movement restriction and the flow of the game (i.e. speed curve). if you have less to consciously think about, you'll have less to be nervous about.
What you need is some British grit. To keep fighting and not to surrender to the pressure You've got a week. After this Tuesday there's nothing to stop me slaughtering TAP Master.
Does this mean that I can expect to see "is about to make you his Tetris bitch" as your Facebook status then?
