IRC Quotes on the wiki

This is an important part of #tetrisconcept/#arika culture, and I think it's outgrown user pages. There are at least two userpages with IRC quotes, and they should be more accessible in my opinion. So I call a vote to unify them on a single main wiki namespace page. There's no reason the wiki needs to be filled exclusively with dusty nerd talk about Tetris gameplay mechanics, a humorous aspect can be very refreshing.

    YAY OR NAY!

  2. Yeah. Especially because more people than just us and TWF will put up funny quotes now. TWF doesn't have his online, though. Maybe this will encourage him [IMG]

Everyone needs a little more broken-Amnesia-english to poke fun at, anyway [IMG]

it's funny stuff, but a lot of it isn't really tetris related, and if newcomers see it they'll be tempted to fill lots of pages with their own quotes and what not. why not have a running thread in the forum and bump it when there are more quotes? they might get read more that way anyhow.

    i'm lost

  5. I kind of like them hidden. It's better when no one's trying to get quoted. Though some quotes do get lost this way. My favorite was when someone said something like, "I like ASS" instead of ARS. But it's only funny in comparison to the others because I was there. Also muf, you're at 1337 words on your page! Had to say it.

    YAY (for mostly using IRC)

  7. Holy shit some of these are funny.

  8. Have more faith in new users. I think a wiki page works fine. Heck, even just a title like "#arika quotes" would make it reasonably obvious that it's not trying to be the new bash.org

Should definitely be unified into a main single wiki page or thread on the forum. To be honest I don't even know where to look for the quotes on the wiki. :/

  10. I like hidden. It's that much more fun when you find it.

I would enjoy something like this if the quotes were actually appropriate for all age groups. But sadly, most of the quotes are sexually-oriented, and I believe this is inappropriate for TetrisConcept.

If we're going to be off topic, can we at least keep it respectable and suitable for a general audience?

  13. I thought we had something of a policy for only allowing members who had passed through puberty?

I think they're all perfectly fine. Sure, they're sexually-orientated, but most of them are just based on innuendo. Anyone too young to be exposed to that sort of stuff would just completely missed the point.

Anyway, this is the internet. Kids can do far worse than those quotes pages.

  14. Yeah, TC is not censored for minors. I'm still waiting for someone to post some Tetris-related porno. [IMG]

The Tetris Concept registration rules explicitly state (perhaps unintentionally so) that sexually-oriented material is not to be posted. Generally, such rules are in place in order to create an environment that we can all enjoy. Am I talking about kids specifically? Not only. If it were put to a poll, I think you would find that people below a certain age, and people above a certain age would be disturbed by it. Not only that, I think those quotes are mostly testosterone-driven and are likely to make the female gender feel uncomfortable. Considering that the situation in IRC is much worse and much more concentrated, I can't see how women in general would feel at all comfortable joining that club. Perhaps you feel it is an important part of IRC culture, but please let's not bring that over to here.

For the record, I am disturbed by it. Honestly, this is a hobbyist forum that ought to be enjoyed by anyone who has an interest in Tetris. Taking a look at the quotes, the P word appears twice, the D word appears once, the T word appears once, the M word appears twice, "sex" itself appears 4 times, porn is referenced 2 times (and once more in this thread by no less than the forum administrator himself), and that is just to mention the explicit ones. There are far more implicit references which, while may go over the heads of the younger audience, may still be disgusting and offensive to the older audience,

I am kind of surprised that nobody seems to be speaking up about this issue, and perhaps I am alone on it. If the consensus really is that this sort of stuff is ok (unlike most other hobbyist forums where admins really do care about and try to enforce this rule), then it might be a good idea to remove the sexually-oriented point from the registration rules. At least that way, you can post all of these funny-to-some-but-disgusting-to-others quotes and people can make good decisions about whether to join before actually joining. I only wish that the people already here wanted to foster the kind of community that its registration rules try to depict, because a TETRIS forum that is considerate to all age groups, genders, races, nationalities, etc. sounds like a really good idea.

  17. Have you interacted with this so called "female gender" before? Allow me to introduce you to it:

We've had girls on IRC before and they've been anything but prude.

  18. Censorship? Fuck that shit!

I just asked the nearest girl to me what she thinks of all of this. Quote "Disgusting". She also said she doesn't want to be involved with those people, wouldn't want to join. She likes tetris (as I'm writing this, she said this even turns her off tetris right now). Just increasing the sample size of female views.

And finally, I think I'll take her advice and leave this forum. Goodbye.
