1) first you must install east asian language support. This is simple. grab your xp cd. GO to control panel, then "regional and lanuages" then click the "languages" tab, then check "Install files for East Asian languages" then click apply. 2) now you have 2 options. you can either set the codepage for all non unicode apps at once, or you can use applocale. Doing the former forces a reboot and trashes ms-dos applications like edit. TO do that, go to advanced, and select "Japanese" in "language for non-unicode programs" The other option is to install Applocale, and when having it launch the app, select the very BOTTOM choice in languages, which is Japanese.
Unless your XP-preinstalled PC came with no CD, or your XP boot drive doesn't have the quarter gigabyte free for the Asian fonts.
if it came with no CD, then it probably won't prompt you for it when you attempt the install. As for the hard disk space issue, there's very little that can be done about that. at least you don't need to install 3rd party software that makes the system unstable.
Hehe, something that I've been saying about all Micky$oft products since day-one... they can do that all on their own without any third-party help whatsoever <LOL>!
Yes, since SP2. It's too bad that Microsoft is getting rid of XP as of the end of this June. Or maybe that's a good thing, as it might drive more PC makers to follow Dell's lead in bundling Ubuntu.
You're all getting an SP3 end of next month, so I don't think there's any reason for complaint at this point.
