Wikipedia claims that every Swiss man gets marching orders at 18, and then it goes on to describe a situation analogous to the US Army Reserve: a boot camp of several months followed by periodic training service. Or perhaps the article is unclear.

I'm about to split this discussion, which could get very political very quickly.
