Achievements and Goals

  1. Among the many interesting topics that came up over adult beverages at MGC 2014, the subjects of players' accomplishments and off the wall challenges generated some really great discussion (even if it was spurred on by my poorly presented opinion on one of my contemporary's achievements [one love :p]). I just thought I'd throw something up and see what people appreciate and/or look to do in their Tetrising future.

Achievement: Thor's 19/30/Max video is hands down the coolest performance I've ever seen. There are tons of great things that have been done on NES, but the combination of achievements in that one game are astounding.

Goal: Outside of a maxout on 18 (and 19), I'd really like to run a consecutive B-Type 19-1, 19-2, and 19-3. I can get to the 19-3 on a fairly regular basis, but I haven't completed it yet.

    Thoughts???

  2. That is indeed a noble goal. Some I have would be a perfect transition and a 400k without a next box.

But I might start playing again and shoot for a more common goal like a 19 max or something, I don't know. Or maybe I wont play much again. Only time will tell.

  3. level 19 max is my remaining goal. up to 869k so i am getting close. i only play three 18 games a day anymore so i doubt i will get an earlier max either.

i am not certain i would want to get a perfect transition since too much of that is luck. you'd have to play very recklessly to get it and i am trying to unlearn that particular play style.

i have done a 19-3 purely by chance (got a lot of L blocks) but dont want to replicate it. i think jani's level 30 goal is very fun to watch, and i hope he gets it soon. i doubt it is within my ability, though i would love to see someone else do it soon.

  4. NES-wise:
+ Level 19 max would be nice.
    + Actual scoring consistency.
+ Attempting some of the dumb theoretical stuff, like a pre-planned Level 0 max-out (i.e., memorized pattern off a properly timed start and no dropping).

I have TGM1 and TGM2 in a pretty good spot where I left off, but improving my time attack there is always welcome.

For TGM3, I would like to accomplish the lofty goal of actually getting the fucking game to work. My USB security plug is officially back in Japan, hopefully to return in a working state so I can start on the actual challenges there. I have some old Resolutions thread material to take out there still, but more than that I simply feel the need to "finish the fight," as it were -- Classic Master GM and Shirase S13, nothing less than complete and utter victory.

  5. Hmmm... I guess I would have to follow you then Kitaru :)

    • I'm grinding out S9 in TAP. I've gotten a few 000-999 runs in ~9:20 with lower grades (S6/S7), but I'm still pretty bad at 900-999 and my overall consistency is fairly awful right now.
    • 800k+ in NES.
    • TGM1 sub-10 GM.

  6. TGM3: Classic Master Qualified MM (if possible GM, although almost impossible xD) and Shirase S13 under 5:30.

Texmaster: Classic Special Ti GM and Sudden Ti S13 under 5:10.

  7. Level 19 max
    700k+ transition
    Maybe Level 30?
    B type,19-0 --2 perfect games in a row(had a 1 away a while back)
