CTWC version with stats

  1. Apologies if this has been asked before, but I didn't have any luck finding it through search. How does one get the version of NES Tetris that you see on the CTWC and several of the Twitch channels? Is it an emulator ROM, or something that can run on the original hardware? I have a standard set up (original NES plugged into an old CRT screen), but would love to see my burn and total tetris stats. Thanks!

  2. As far as statistics go, what you see at CTWC is just an overlay; they have some custom software that does OCR to read the piece stats, score, lines, playfield, etc. and draw a high resolution playfield with additional stats. CTWC does use a cartridge patching device to inject changes to the game software as well, but those are more oriented toward supporting deterministic randomization and so on.

I'm not sure if the stats ROM hack used by Jonas and other streamers is linked somewhere easily searchable -- this Reddit thread links to Jonas's Discord server, which has a channel with links to various patches for stats and so on. I also know of the DAS trainer patch, which is publicly available here.
