Challenge Series #1: TGM1 Score Attack

Thread in 'Competition' started by JBroms, 12 Dec 2017.

  1. Sup everybody. I thought it would be fun to start a series of TGM challenges, both as a way to increase the feeling of competition around here, and to highlight some fun alternative ways to play. Every two weeks or so (subject to change) I'll post a new game mode for people to play. Scores will be tracked and a leaderboard will be constructed for every single one. I've already discussed the possibility of forum prizes with Muf (trophies and the like) for those who come out on top in these challenges. There will be a lot of variance in what I propose, and I'm hoping to cover a wide range of skill sets. Clones are welcome, though I may section them off into their own leaderboards if large enough differences are identified.
Eventually I'll make a clear and concise set of rules, but for the time being, I wanted to get the first challenge out there:

    TGM1 SCORE ATTACK
    Ends: December 23rd, 2017
TGM1 score attack is a fun alternative way to play TGM1. The scoring formula as it relates to levels, combos, and bravos can really set you up for some big score if you focus on it.
    Score = ((Level + Lines)/4 + Soft) x Lines x Combo x Bravo
    Tips:
You get more score in the later levels
You get extra points for soft dropping (why the S4@500 requirement is actually hard in 20g)
    Combos are key
Clearing a single with an active combo will keep your combo going and net you a surprising number of points
Bravos (particularly those at the end of a combo) can be awesome
You can stack up at level stops for free lines to clear

    Code:
    Amnesia --- 282618
    K --------- 281004
    Qlex ------ 280184
    eskatre --- 268540
    FeV ------- 209926
    Icefox ---- 209301
    JBroms ---- 180718

Tentative score which I may or may not bother to beat later :p At least it broke 200k, wasn't expecting that from my first complete run.
    GM with 209,926 pts

  3. This is a neat concept, I want to come back and bump this over 200k but for now I'll post this because I want to support these challenges.

Blew a potential tetris in the 900 section that would have put me over 200k.

  11. Sorry, video was private. This should be good now

  12. Not here to post a score just yet, though here's a fun thing I noticed about the grading system for this game. From grade 1 onward, there's a 2,000 point increase per grade. So for this challenge we could make up 'valid' grades to tier into the leaderboards!

    Code:
    S9 120,000 +20k
    S10 122,000 +22k
    S11 146,000 +24k
    S12 172,000 +26k
    S13 200,000 +28k
    S14 230,000 +30k
    S15 262,000 +32k - The current top score here.
    S16 296,000 +34k
    S17 332,000 +36k
    S18 370,000 +38k
    S19 410,000 +40k
    S20 452,000 +42k
