I got the game working with the UE, but the inbuilt joystick support isn't optimal and things aren't mapped where I'd like and I don't know how to change them. I'd rather just use XPadder to rebind to the keyboard, but I don't know how to disable the joystick input in heboris, help please?
I swear there was just some sort of fairly obvious "use joystick X/O" in the options menu on Heboris. Likewise I don't have any real memory of re-binding controls being particularly difficult. It's hard to really say - Heboris has been superseded by Nullpomino for years now - I've not touched it in ages and I doubt many other people have. As much as I don't particularly like to reply to help threads with "You're playing the wrong game, play this instead", I'd strongly recommend switching to Nullpomino instead as it's basically the same thing but in a slightly cleaner interface.
No that's cool man, I felt it was quite outdated. The TGM clone on DS Homebrew is really good but it doesn't appear to work in emulators so I'll give this a shot when I want TGM action on PC.
If you specifically want to play TGM modes, I'd say Texmaster is the best clone if you'd prefer to stay away from emulators. Needs a bit of config file editing to set the controls up but it works well with most joysticks afaik.
I havn't been able to get Texmaster to work (just closes instantly when I run it, it was the first clone I tried) but I got NullpoMino working perfectly. What options in it emulate TGM perfectly, it seems identical to it except it has the crap from Tetris DS where you can spin forever and never drop the piece, and hard drop doesn't let you move afterwards.
Make sure you select a Classic rule instead of the default Standard. Usually when you pick a mode it has a recommended rules to use instead of the current default. When selecting Grade Mania 1 you'll be given the option to use the recommended Classic1, Grade Mania 2 and Speed Mania will recommend Classic2, and Grade Mania 3 and Speed Mania 2 will recommend Classic3 (as well as Standard-Hard, which has SRS/World rotation rules but a limit on the number of rotations/moves that can be done before the piece automatically locks). That way you can easily select the correct rule for that mode without having to much around in the Options menu every time you want to switch to something else.
