Records: [NES NTSC] A-Type Level 19

  1. well done, aaron! not an easy feat.
on a realted note: beating 19-3 seems to be more about your block assortment (which i believe is pseudo-random) and which piece you get first, since you can move the first block all the way to the left before it falls (an advantage you dont have while playing an A-type game). that said, it is still hard as shit to beat. i heard thor beat 19-4 two years ago at a tetris party before the championships. i want to do THAT.

  2. Thanks man, I agree that a lot of it is your block assortment and the pieces you get. Luck is a major factor on any given game for sure. In my game, I had a pretty good block assortment, and although I didnt need to move the first piece over to the left, I got several of the right pieces I needed at the right time. It would be great to see you get 19-4. I do believe its possible without hyper tapping (like Thor can), but it will obviously take an incredible amount of luck to go along with your amazing skill. I finally completed an 18-5 last night, which I believe (at least for me) is harder than 19-3.

  3. First stream in months and this happens:

    Qlex likes this.
  4. "walkin in to my first stream in months, straight up PB start." AMEN. well played.

  5. Thanks, T. I find the game encouraging because (1.) the beginning was rather sloppy, and (2.) I played super conservatively, particularly the last few levels. It felt good, though. For sure.

  6. Nice game BDCowe, I like your level 19 speed playing style. Looks a lot like what I am trying to do. For whatever reason I can only play well for 80-120 lines on most of my good level 19 start games.

  7. It all comes in time, Aaron. You'll get more and more consistent. The further along you get with your skill, the more you'll see similarities with other great players...greater players than me. :p

  8. A new jump for me: 754.301, 233 lines. On emulator as always.

Congratulations BDCowe for your new pb!

  9. Nice last tetris, and great game overall! Pretty nice increase over your previous high too, good one.

  10. well done matthias! i left you a youtube comment (which i hope you saw). you are progressing very well! i am excited to meet you- either this march in copenhagen, or next year, in germany!

  11. Slight little bump for me. 867,640 @ 232 lines.

The score may be under 900, but I think this game is something special.

Inspired by Ben Cowe (first attempt). But truly, it is. I watched his game the other day (great job, btw, 600k killscreen puts you in the super elite) and busted out a 727 (or something like that) off a 19 start. It was the first "good" game of Tetris I have had since maybe November. That left me feeling good about things, and wanting to give 19 another crack, and voila.

  12. Awesome game man! Keep at it. Your energy/enthusiasm is inspirational.

  13. Geeze. I'm gone for a couple days and ya'll are lightin' it up!

Way to go on your PB! Lovely game. Thanks for the congrats! :)

Too kind, Josh. :D One hell of a game on your end!!! Looking forward to playing in April, my friend!

Much appreciated! I'm trying to have some fun and just put my game out there, for better or worse.

  14. Damn, you guys are good. I got a new level 19 start record too, but I don't even want to post it after that
Holy crap that was a good game, very well done! I was all excited about my improvement yesterday, but now...not so much lol. I increased from 397k to 489k, but I made it to the kill screen (233 lines) this time. So I made it further but my avg per line wasn't as good. I will post the video later.

  15. Here is that video I mentioned above. 489,460 is my new PR for level 19 start.

  16. What an exciting time in Level 19! New PB's popping up all over the place!

Aaron, good job in the score bump. Looks like you got good pace and endurance both at your disposal, just a matter of time before they both converge.

And thanks for the compliments, guys. The 867 game may be my magnum opus. I have never been more proud of a game, not even a max out. If you watch closely, you will see that I misdrop a square almost at the very beginning, but I am absolutely mistake free after that (misdrops, over-shifts, etc.--not saying all my decisions were correct lol). Technically I did misplace a square at the very end, but that is not the same as a mistake, as I was in the insane end-of-game scramble for the longbar.

I may never have to play Tetris again.

Just want to touch back on something I mentioned above....My own opinion is that a 600k killscreen game (on a Level 19 start) is a major milestone. It was a goal I had set for myself back in the day: once I felt I was "near mastery" on the 19 speed, I set that goal. Well, it took me a lot longer to achieve it than I thought it would, but I did get there eventually.

I feel like 600k killscreens represent both the strong pace and the lasting endurance of Tetris mastery. 600k gives you 300k both before and after level transition. I have never done the math, but I think the points possible for each side of that (the first 130-140 lines and the last 100 lines) should be fairly close, and 300k after Level 19 is nails. Think about it: for a Level 18 start, if you transition around 550k and then score 300k, you are sitting at 850k...that's a very, very good score. So to sum up, 600k killscreens on Level 19 prove that not only do you have what it takes to hang with the best, but also that you can do it for a very long period of time.

    It is a big deal.

btw- I did do the math. *For Level 18: 130 lines is 780,000 max points and the last 100 lines is 765,000 max points

  17. Thanks Joshua for the comments on my game. I find it interesting what you said about the level 19 start 600k milestone, and the blend of endurance and pace. I guess I have another goal to work towards, so that's fun. I actually find it a lot more fun to play level 19 speed than level 18 or below. I find myself not playing very many max score games because it seems a bit like a grind. As everyone knows, you spend all this time getting a decent transition only to, more often than not, blow it soon after. This is probably why my overall game (and level 19 start) endurance is weak. I spend too much time playing level 19, and most of those games end relatively quickly compared to max score attempts when starting on lower levels.

  18. so much action! you guys are an inspiring bunch no doubt. josh your game is awesome! well played, and while i loved that calm, collected ending a little less than your first one, it still had its merits. dont stop playing, i know you can max out 19! you are a fucking tetris beast for gods sake.

i also see you point about 600k on 19. it is a milestone, and anyone that gets it should be proud...

which brings me to BDCowe! congrats man. 600k really is a big deal. and on a similar note, aaron, you rent far off. keep playing and good things happen.

you are all so inspiring i fact that i decided to sit down and play some games to see if this mojo could extend across borders and time zones. I played what i think is my favorite game ever, which included an epic save, but not a very high score. i also had an 809k@level 25 that i promptly blew and died. that really could have been my 19 max out #2, and on film. ugh. but thanks for the inspiration boys, and i expect you to all continue your pursuits, as will i.

  19. No Terry, you are a Tetris beast. I am a Tetris mountain goat, maybe. (they are proud and sure-footed, fine qualities!)

  20. Cool games Terry. I can tell that I have a long ways to go on getting better, your play always looks nearly perfect to me. Your make it look easy, and I know it isn't!
