Need an honest opinion

  1. Hi, I've also posted in the introduction thread.

Anyway, even though I'm playing a lot, I never got to talk with and receive an opinion of other players so I have no way of knowing my real skill level, and how to improve, so for now I'm considering myself something between a decent to horrible (leaning toward horrible) and it's one of the reasons I decided to start posting here, as I've been living in a bubble of my own in tetris and I want to break out of it.

Anyway, here's a recent footage from texmaster to open things up.

I would really like to get some feedback of some sort.

  2. Yo, you know what TGM is, and you picked Classic over World. This automatically makes it incredibly unlikely that you're "horrible" -- the average player doesn't seek out something other than the standard Tetris experience. 99% of players do not finish Marathon (actual stat from Tetris Friends on Facebook if I recall correctly) so they're already probably pretty satisfied with the challenge level in the current ruleset and wouldn't be expanding those horizons.

You also made it to 20G and look to have some understanding of how to approach it -- things don't completely fall apart until the lock delay drops down. So, not only have you taken "the red pill," you're also able to hold your own up to the latter half of the game. You might have a harder time if you take away some of the TGM3 niceties like Hold and the I/T floorkicks, but that's still not a bad place to be.

Verdict: Not Horrible. :p You've got a solid start here -- you don't have to be a Grand Master to be decent! It seems like the TGMer's lot in life is to be a perfectionist never satisfied with what they've got, so welcome to the club. :D

I'd love to be able to offer more in-depth feedback if I get some more free time, but for now I say just keep at it. :) Someone else might be able to give some advice in the meantime.

  3. If I have time myself I'll try and get to a video review. Looked at it for a short time and you're definitely doing good. Welcome to the club! :)

  4. Thanks for the input, made me feel a bit better about it.

Anyway, I've picked TGM because modern 'regular' tetris is not challenging at all (I actually though it's pretty common to complete marathons, dunno why).
Also been playing TAP on mame for some time, but I found it way more difficult to control after 300 with pieces getting stuck and such.
