Lockjaw: The Tetromino Game

Thread in 'Discussion' started by tepples, 13 Jun 2006.

  1. Now the preview layout is like this:
    Code:
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5
    6
That makes my brain confused when playing fast, so I maybe think 2 is 1 and I screw up...

Can't the preview layout be like in Tetris DS, like this?
    Code:
    1 2 3
      4
      5
      6
If it's like that, I'll know for sure which one the next piece is, and I'll have a hum of what pieces are gonna spawn soon...

..OR that the next spawning piece is like 2x bigger than the rest of the previews...

I can only play fast with one preview like it is now. [IMG]

For the next version, maybe options on where the previews should be placed could be nice? [IMG]

You could draw a box around the first piece in the skin's background.

"Next at top" exactly matches Tetris The Grand Master 3: Terror-Instinct and newer Tetris products published by Arika. Plenty of other Tetris products include a preview with one piece drawn as big as the falling piece and the rest smaller.

Do you know how to work a paint program such as GIMP or Photoshop? If so, would you please draw me a picture of what you think the screen for rearranging previews would look like?

The player could specify numerical values for the x and y offsets and the size of each preview (and perhaps the hold piece as well); no graphical interface is necessary.

how do you turn off the music?
    its giving me a migrane....

  5. best way would be to delete or rename the bgm files.

  6. I'm thinking about getting Ubuntu and dumping Windows (I've done that a couple of times, jumping back and forth, but it's fun, haha [IMG]).

Can the Windows version of LJ be played on Linux through wine? There is no Linux version of LJ yet, right? [IMG]

Thanks to patches and other suggestions from kesiev, the source should recompile with little difficulty. I've managed to get it running on my aunt's Ubuntu box.

  8. Nice! =)

  9. Downloaded LJ, finally, and I am very impressed at the customization options available.
    One thing:
I can't find this option in the PC version. I find my eyes keep going to the top of the well to find the next pieces, but they are actually at the right.

Edit: nevermind, found it reading through this thread.

Weird bug. When the sideways delay is 4 frames or lower, holding down a drop input that locks causes every subsequent active piece to lock (safe lock is not present). When set higher than that, everything is fine.

There are several ways that players can interact through a tetromino game:
    1. Players play separately and then copy their scores into a web site for comparison.
    2. Players play separately and then the game automatically posts their scores to a web site.
    3. Players sitting at one PC and holding gamepads send garbage to each other in real time (like Dr. Mario).
    4. Players sitting at different PCs send garbage to each other in real time (like Tetris DS).
Lockjaw for PC and DS supports A; Tetramino supports C. Which mode are you talking about?

I don't know if this was already mentioned, but it'd be nice if you added a 100 lines mode and a way to save replays of the latest game like in NDS TGM.

  14. If I rememebr correctly, it does already save the last replay, if you activate an option in settings.

  15. yes, it already does this, at least for the most current version(LJ ver. 45). make sure 'record all games' is turned on in the options and then look for 'demo.ljm' in the native directory. also make sure you rename demo.ljm or move it as it will be written over on the next game you play.

Sorry for being not clear enough. What I meant to ask is if replays of the NDS version could be saved like with NDS TGM. I have been using the replay function of the PC version for a while now and have been posting them in the LJ records thread. ;)

Also there was a thread with talk about a new version. Anything more you can tell us about that tepples? ^^

any possibility of a more recent mac port from someone? couple of recent tetris addict friends would love to be able to play on their macs.

  18. just wanted to say thanks and props to tepples (i think) for how awesome Lockjaw is, very customisable, awesomely fast engine (always get lower times in 40 lines than in any other game, with no line clear delay, awesome/customizable DAS)

    First things first.

    A) Thanks for LockJaw. To me, it's a nice "tetris trainer" on the go (using it almost exclusivly on DS, but have also looked at it on Windows)
    B) How about a "Lockjaw" Forum? Given the number of postings in here, it's kind of... Hard to follow all the discussions. Anyway, let me chime in, too.

    5) (only works for two players) make players play "against" each other in the same well. See "Tetris DS - Push Mode". Both players can push the other down by clearing a certain number of lines. When you've topped out, you loose.

    6) (maybe even 4a), people can either use items on the other players (no more previews, no more rotation, etc., like seen in tetrinet and Tetris DS). And/Or can send over garbage.

By the way, cheering for a "Lockjaw DS Multiplayer mode" was my motivation of registering here in this forum. It would be nice to be able to "host" a game with given settings where others could join via WiFi (on the DS, maybe even cross-platform. But would probably be a lot harder to code). You know, there's no multiplayer TGM clone for the DS. And TGM-DS was cancelled, so no chance of seeing a multiplayer-mode there.

Any chance of motivating you to continue working on this project?

    Thanks!

For the Windows version, I actually like the music. Still it would be nice to be able to mute the music and have sounds only.

On the DS, the music is... not really my style [IMG] I'd also love, next to being able to mute it, be able to switch between songs. Or even have choreographed songs (depending on the level) like in Tetris DS, TGM NDS, etc.
