So, not to jinx the process or anything but I'm currently in the middle of buying a flat in Cambridge, which means that I'll actually have a place I can hold parties and shit without pissing off everyone I live with, and where people can actually stay for a few nights. This is really early days at the moment, because I don't even legally own the place, but I'm just scoping out vague interest for hosting a meet. It'll most likely be April/May/June time, because I need time to actually move in and settle, Cambridge in summer is way nicer than winter, and I don't want it to be too close to August/September and step onto the toes of when the Eindhoven meet will presumably be. Will say pretty quickly that this is unlikely to be a hugely Tetris-oriented deal, and will probably be more of a casual and social meet. For example, things I probably won't have: Lots of CRTs (I can probably source one or two for the meet) Arcade PCBs (not yet anyway) The motivation and hardware to fuck around making a fancy web stream Geert pizza Basically whatever Tetris stuff is going to be there besides shmupmame on my PC will have to be brought by people. But I'm fine with that, because I'm probably not going to be able to sleep more than 5-6 people in my flat anyway so I don't want it to be too awesome and appealing. So why should people bother coming if there's not much Tetris and no masters? What positives are there? Things my flat does/will have: Decent transport links. It's right next to the Cambridge rail station, which is about a £14 return train ticket from Stansted Airport (which flies to/from most places in Western Europe for £40-50 return). Which is a direct train that takes about 30 minutes. Or alternatively you can also fly to London Luton or London Heathrow and get a bus. A shitload of really good pubs within easy walking distance (Frenchies need not apply...) PS4, and probably a PS2 with a multitap and ton of games Free wifi! () Tons of touristy crap to go see in Cambridge Easy access to London (less than an hour and £15 on a train), which has the Casino Leisure arcade (Kevin, Amnesia and pineapple have already been afaik). Which last time I was there had Progear, Mushihime-sama Futari, and various fighters. And the substantial amount of other things to see/do in London (we can probably make a day of it or something). Punting with beer + BBQ if the weather is good So basically, yeah. If you want to spend 3-4 days playing Tetris until your wrist is sore, then wait until Eindhoven. However if you want a long weekend holiday in a nice city with good company and free accommodation, then show interest here
I'll be there. Even if something comes up and I can't make it, you're still welcome to borrow my assorted tetris shit for the meet, which includes a TGM1 pcb with a supergun and 2 sticks. I may have some other cool stuff and more pcbs by the time the meet rolls around, but don't get your hopes up on a TAP pcb; it's too expensive and I just don't enjoy the game enough to warrant a purchase.
Will pretty much definitely make this unless it's in January (which would be stupidly soon). Can finally pay Edo for my keyboard!
